Another brief instalment in the "footerin' about" series...
A few beads run onto 12mm plate in the horizontal-vertical position. The lower four beads were run with 7018 rods, 3.2mm, 115A DC+.
The six upper beads were run with 7016 (Spezial D), 3.2mm, 105-110A DC+. The interesting aspect is how the mode of metal transfer varies between rods, and the flatter, smoother finish on the upper beads stems largely from the fine droplet (more or less spray) transfer mode of the Spezial D. Whereas most 7018 seem (to me) to have a slightly coarser transfer mode.
Anyone interested in practicing positional MMA welding may be find the Spezial D (or similar running rods) quite appealing, and perhaps a wee bit more forgiving.
Just some casual observations.
