6cyl Rev counter

I've been on the hunt for a Rev counter for the truck, with no luck.

Im after a small (sub 80mm) 6cyl counter with a max rpm of 4k.

Most I find are either too big (dia) or are for diesels.

Plenty at 8k+Rpm.


Any suggests please

I know a lad on Mig used to build pulse convertors (mostly for v6 conversions with 4 pot rev counters)

When I fitted petrol clocks in my td Astra van the 7k limit was a bit optimistic

How about one from a 4 cylinder car that revs to 6-7K ?
Since it would over-read by 1.5x you could easily design a new face for it that a van graphics place could print to vinyl to stick on the face.

Alternately older (think 70-80's era) rev counters can often be re-calibrated just by modifying the value of one of the resistors on the back.

I did wonder if a 4cyl could be mod'ed.

The older the better, as it off in a 50's truck

From what I've quickly read you can use an electronic speedo correction module like this -

If it won't work with a 4 cylinder rev counter on your engine you could go the other way and use an 8 cylinder rev counter.

you may be able to modify the electronics on rev counter and they are effectivly a frequency to voltage converter, so the gauge is basically a voltmeter. when I was playing with an old smiths rev counter (late 1960's or early 1970's) to be used in my Triumph Herald, I couldnt get it to work, so I ended up making a new drive circuit using an 555 timer chip.

Depends how old and complicated it is, why have you a Lancaster or a Vulcan in your garage ?

Na forget that, the Vulcan revs a bit faster than your 4000rpm limit

Im going to use an aircraft gauge (tbd) and retro fit a rev counter guts
