Hi guys,
I know this is a metal work forum, more so than wood working but you guys have provided me with a lot of good information in the past, so I trust your judgement.
I've been making dashboards these past few months for vintage and classic cars, mostly Triumphs. Up to recently I've been finishing these dashes (birch plywood base with veneered face) in cellulose based base coat and gloss top coat. They finish beautifully and come up like glass but I've recently found with a tester that the finish is prone to checking/cracking which isnt good! The celly lacquer is just too brittle and not suitable to being open to the elements. Obviously I need something a little harder wearing and with some flex.
I called a local supplier and he recommended a 2K product that I've linked below:
https://www.vinnybyrne.com/body-shop/clear-lacquers/besa-2k-hs-clear-kit-5-2-5.html
Now, I explained that I work in a small workshop, I don't have an air fed mask or a proper spray booth at the moment. He said I'd be ok with a suit and half face mask. But I'm unsure, the phrase 2k makes me nervous so I was hoping someone more in the know than I might have a look at the tech sheets on the above link and tell me if its suitable to my needs/set up.
Thanks for any help guys! :-)
