2 very wrong prototypes

Just 2 weeks ago i was driving behind a convertible Range Rover Evoque and today ive just driven past a 4x4 Bentley!! Both ugly as sin and taking away what there badges heritage represent!!

Thats my first moan of the year out the way

Haven't seen the Bentley but did see the rangie earlier today while out on a shoot...it was parked on the road while the owner was jumping into a fourtrak to get to the shoot...says it all

I saw a proper evoque parked on some wet grass a while back, I was quite impressed at the bravery of the driver for getting it there...until I got to exactly the same place in Alfa...lol

I saw the Bentley 4x4 when I was driving down past Crewe a few months back - looked hideous to be honest but having said that I wouldn't mind being able to afford one in the first place!!

It looks like an old boxy thing you might see abroad somewhere! As you say though, the price tag puts me out of reach so I shouldn't moan. It's not as if I had one down on my list of cars I can afford anyway

Don't know how much they cost but I bet you could get a mint 110 and something comfy to drive when you aren't going off road as well and still get change

I imagine the price tag would get you a very nice new Range Rover with plenty of spare change - which at least has some off road pedigree. Still, at least it's made in Britain so fair play!

I wish they still made fourtracks, they where a very underrated motor and with a little refinement could have been excellent.

A friend has one of the last leaf sprung ones and wouldn't sell it for anything. We have had to perform many weld-athon's on it but mechanically it is indistructable and it hasn't had anything but an easy life.

I imagine the price tag would get you a very nice new Range Rover with plenty of spare change - which at least has some off road pedigree. Still, at least it's made in Britain so fair play!

The new Range Rover may have the pedigree of the original but non of the minerals.

I believe they are still pretty good in the rough though, (with the right tyres on.)

I guess it's a moot point though as I can't imagine anyone taking an 80k plus car for serious off roading.

The new range rovers are still very capable. I went off roading last year with a group, one of which bought a brand new L405. To be fair it wasnt actually his, it was a works car. Not my cup of tea external design wise though. I put the recent spate of ugly cars down to most manufactures chasing the Chinese markets.

I'm not saying they are usless off road but if I where heading in to the ruff stuff I would be more confident of success in a RRC than a L405

from what ive been told finding good tyres for those sized rims is quite difficult, and you cant drop a rim size to make tyre choice easier becasue the wheels wont clear the brakes.

the meganes latest tantrum has got me looking at 4x4's again...i dont want anything posh, just relatively comfy and adequate off road for slushy fields so make end up with a pick up with some M/T

Oh some do. The things I have seen on the posh shoots but to some 80k isn't big money

Id love the chance to take one off road just to test it. I remember when Jeremy Clarkson took the then new disco 3 up that hill and it did remarkably well. My pal has just bought a new range at £85k but wont entertain taking it off road. Hes a financial advisor an a bit 'showy'

ive been in a range rover sport on a slightly harder than average green lane, standard road tyres and i did everything the 90's and disco's did on off road tyres and lift kits...and it was a damn sight more comfortable, but when you spend that sort of money on a car you dont really want to take it too many places that may cause expensive damage

ive been in a range rover sport on a slightly harder than average green lane, standard road tyres and i did everything the 90's and disco's did on off road tyres and lift kits...

The electronic traction aids help a lot, only problem is, if it breaks down in the middle of nowhere your not going to fix it with a hammer and duck tape!
