It's a Viking 3350. At under 250USD I thought, not much for a high-end helmet... then it arrived. What the heck? I have seen Halloween masks for kids with almost as much integrity. Granted the lens seem to be quite decent, but the shell and headgear is comical. In complete honesty, my kid has a power ranger mask that has more rigidity, equivalent headgear, and even lights up - LOL. Is this the norm? Within a moment of handling it my first and immediate impression was 'I have to do something about this'. Maybe lay in a thin or single layer of fiberglass fabric (the resin should do the trick)? Then I thought does anyone make aftermarket helmet shells and headgear, perhaps carbon fiber? I guess my Shoei motorcycle helmet, Bike football helmet (US Football) and CCM hockey helmet has spawned my cynicism. I get that weight is a significant factor and price matters too, but as a hobbyist probably less so.
I have yet to actually use it, but i am thinking I will purchase a cheap hockey goalie helmet, cut the front section out of the Viking and rivet it to the hockey helmet. In the end, I probably won't do that, and I will probably adapt, but aside from the lens, I guess I was expecting more...
Cheers!
