Hi, just wanted to ask if this practice weld I did today is ok? tbh its one of my better welds in terms of neatness but what do you guys think overall?
Not realy a weld bead but a collection of spots / tacks. In the second pic on the right it looks like its not a overlap joint at all but just a flat plate? Looks like you got the cleaning the metal down good. Just a thought are you spotting through one plate into the second plate (with or without pre drilled holes)?
I found it the only way I could join without the thin metal warping. Its 2 x 1mm plates overlaped. Basically today I have tried out the different methods of joining two thin plates of steel together. Just practicing things like butt weld, plug weld and overlap using the same technique, short bursts resulting in overlapping spot type welds.
In the lower penetration pic you would'nt see the line because that is the bottom plate which has been welded too. Unless I am misunderstanding what you mean?
Ah now I see it you cut through the plate after weliding it. Dint mean to diss the spots. Some times its the only way to join realy thin stuff. 1mm to 1mm should be ok to seam weld if you tack it up first & then do a 1" weld let it cool leave a gap & do another weld repeat this till you have gone along the complet join. Then fill in the gaps in the same weld & cool way.
