1k pearl paint problem

Hi. I've painted a repair on a door with 1K pearl spray can and 1k clear. held the can the right distance laid down 3 medium wet coats. however after clear coating and buffing the base coat looks matte and almost powdery in low light so does not have the depth of shine the original paint has. Before the clear coat is laid on the last coat of base colour looks shiny though slightly orange peel (like the original). Can any one tell me what is causing this?

If you sprayed it in this hot weather it could be that it flashed a bit too quickly or you didn't get it wet enough. Spray cans will often give a poor result and it takes a lot of skill and work to get a good result with them. You probably need to put more than 3 coats of clear on as it's extremely thin from a spraycan.

As said, you are fighting a huge battle. 1 celly 2 Pearl 3 rattle can 4 blend. You really need a half decent gun and quite a bit of experience to blend pearls and make them invisible. The fan of a rattle is not nearly wide enough. The problem you now have is if you flat back before its fully dried out you may get ghosting and pickling around the edges. Try keying up lightly (enough to make it matt) with grey scothbrite and whisp the first couple of colour coats on lightly.

thanks for the replays.

I did spray it in this hot wether. so i should avoid blending in generally and i should spray it somewhere cooler? also do i wait for the last colour coat to dry fully or is touch dry ok before laying the clear coat?
