Looking to get some cutting oil for the lathe. Experience suggests I wont use it wet that often, any recommendations or should I just put some cheap hydraulic oil in the tank.
Eventually got all the VFD's fitted and wired up to a combination of the existing cam switches and contactors. Need to tidy the wiring up a bit and document it all before I forget how it works.6
Thanks.
The generic Chinese VFD's seem to come with very little documentation. Does anyone know if the emergency stop function does something distinctly different to the normal stop function?
A question about VFD wiring.
I now have three separate VFD's for controlling the Hardinge. Can I common the commons on the multi function inputs on all three or should I keep them isolated.
That was my plan for the speed change motor, I think its only 1/20 hp, is there a way of working out what value capacitor to use?
Don't think the speed change motor is easily reconfigured to delta, interesting that it may still work in star from a VFD.
The other motor in the diagram is the...
I've been playing with the electrics on the Hardinge today. I wanted to check that the control circuit was working OK. The control circuit is 230V AC, this is normally supplied by two of the phase connected to the primary side of a transformer and the 230V comes from the secondary. My initial...
I'm assuming the 1 micron scales would give me 0.005mm increments on the cross slide display rather than 0.01mm increments from the 5 micron scales. Worth having or not? Agreed about it being resolution rather than accuracy but in theory I could maybe half the uncertainty.
These are a few pics of dividing heads on a Tom Senior,
Both are nominally the same size with 4" chucks, the Hofmann has the advantage of a higher center height so I can bolt of a 6" chuck, the Aciera has the advantage of being able to accommodate collets in the spindle, both are a good size...
More or less what I'm doing at the moment. I've substituted larger cutters that are the same thickness in the past but I guess a small straight edge would be a lot easier. Kind of just making sure I'm not missing something obvious.
How would I use a square and slips, stand the square on the...
I have a mill that can be operated as both a vertical or horizontal machine. With the machine setup as a vertical mill I just use an edge finder to set my datums, how do you go about this with a horizontal machine. Say I had the dividing head and tail stock all clocked in and a shaft in there...
Interesting, don't want to hijack this thread but say for instance I had an old Boxford CNC lathe could I wire one of these controllers into the existing stepper drives, spindle control and tool changer?
