Wish I knew about this years ago! Flux cored welding without the shroud is going to make things much easier for me. I've seen a special narrow cone type shroud - but that is only available from USA.
No flap, but there is a collar on the bigger burner that does not fit very well. It's just a strip of steel bent round like a hose clip but without a screw tightener. I've bent this smaller to try to fit it to the smaller burner - but it just slips down when the torch is moved and then the flame...
Yeah, it lights better that way - and as soon as it's warmed up, I gradually increase the presure, slowly remove my flaming hand............. and out goes the flame. Very frustrating!
I need to braze a threaded insert into a fuel tank (no risk, unused for years!). I bought a Clarke propane burner kit and I'm having dificulty in lighting it - the gas just blows out the flame every time I offer up a match. Gas bottle seems ok - have run a space heater from it and that works ok...
Aha, White spirit not doing it. 'Face off' disc seems to work. I'm only taking coating off where I'm likely to spot / Mig weld (floor panel). I'm guessing that the rest of the coating can stay and will accept overcoating with red oxide primer / chassis black / underseal.
Anyone got a magic bullet for stripping black holding primer off of a panel prior to welding? I'm using paint stripper - but it turns to tar and is difficult to scrape off.
Contacted manufacturer, problem apparantly is that I used an acrylic primer (Holts) and their own paints are cellulose. But it's funny that the base coat did not have an effect on the primer - just the later clear coat.
OK, I've tried the jam jar test - looks totally clear. Red oxide was used - but on the other side of the metal, but not on the wing and the same defect can be seen. The base paint is a perfect match colour - but is only in matt finish (as far as I know). The clear lacquer is made by same company...
I've sprayed a Morris Minor metal grille suround and metal bumper valance and fibre glass wing with Battleship grey over grey primer. It's a perfect match for the other paintwork, but after a clear coat application I notice pools or red appearing. They appear to be worse on folds and crevices...
That's great - thanks. I got quite a shock when I got through the first bottle so quickly. I then bought a small Co2, which lasted a little longer but didn't finish the weld I was doing and put me £18 out of pocket!
Having just gassed up my gasless Clarke EN90, I've discovered a new weld! It's completely different to what I've been used to - but my gas ran out really quickly. I'm going to get a big Argoshield bottle and a regulator, but I'm a bit confused. I've seen a thing called a Flow-Meter, what's the...
I've just converted my Gas-less Clarke EN90 to gas - Wow, what a difference!!!
But, my gas ran out very quickly. The regulator doesn't have a gauge. The bottle was Argon/Co2.
Should I not open the valve fully?
If I get a gauge - what reading should I be looking for?
I got a Co2 only...
