One thing with tube though.. even packed, how would you bend it without the inside wrinkling? you'd need a die? what about when it's really tight at the top? some sissy bars have almost a 180deg bend at the top with minimal radius.
Asking because I bend my own handlbars out of 1" tube, but have...
See, I dont think the tube would be man enough to hold my stuff.. I pack a lot on it, and there's a lot of vibrations as my bikes are hardtails.
All sissy bars are made out of solid round, square, hex, so I rather keep that going. and packing the sand etc, would be a right pain if you want to...
that's pretty cool!!
ohhh I dont think i'd have be able to do it without a jig... my OCD needs the jig ahaha, I can spot things off my 1mm and can't live with it. the jigs allow me to make sure everything is exactly the same... and even then sometimes is not the same.
Thanks gents!! I'll give it another go.
Been in the process of beefing up my jig as with the heat the plate kinda bowed a bit and don't want that, so I've welded some angled steel down the sdes on the back of it.
also had to get a new bottle of oxygen.... :/ I only get 9L bottles at a time...
Hi, i'm using a cutting nozzle.
it's a 3/32 nozzle, 2 piece for propane.
The reason why I'm using it is I have asked on here before and someone said the heating rosebud would use twice the ammount of gas/oxy
and seeing as I'm only heating up a very specific area, probably about 1" wide, I...
Well, the thing is, even on here I read about both ways of turning it off... this time I tried the different way and as I wasn't getting the bangs, then I was doing oxy first, fuel second.
but i'll do the other way around.
I tried to get a sharp defined inner cone, but can't really manage to do...
Hi all, I'm back and nothing blew up! Only today I had a chance to get in the garage as I had a day off work.
Got my jib all built up and sorted, done a few prayers, looked at all the notes I got from advice on here and turned it on! Good thing is I'm not getting the bangs now that i'm shutting...
Just revisiting this thread.... haven't had a chance yet to try out all your advice guys.
hopefully this Sunday I should have a free afternoon.. if you don't hear from me on Monday, things gone wrong! haha
Problem I have is not having someone that can show me what is a good flame, what's not, what happens when there's not enough pressure etc.. I'm trying to do things by the book...
I'm sure once I get the basics right then a bit of adjusting and finding out by trial and error might be alright...
Hi again, so I have, from the 2 links you gents sent, compiled what is off interest to me. The propane settings.
also many thanks for the links as it clearly explains lighting up and shutting off procedures.
So as discussed just a few replies above, seeing as im only heating up 17mm solid...
No, it's not rocket science at all and I'm a self taught on everything I do - and I do TIG in mild, stainless and ally, metal fabrication, engine building, motorbike building, auto upholstery,.... learned everything on my own and with youtube videos and internet help, like here.
but... in this...
What kind of pressures should I be using on the propane and the oxy?
Obviously I won't need to hit the lever as I won't be cutting so what's the process just for heating?
Propane..light on, flame as it just separates from tip, then open the first oxy knob wide and then the second one towards the...
In that case is it better for me to use the cutting torch to heat up the metal rod?
I only need localised heating on 17mm steel rod to bend it probably a maximum of 60deg.. Sometimes even less than that.
yes, Oxygen bottle is not very big, but i'm only a hobbyist, so cost plays a big part. it's my first bottle so I'll see how it goes and how quick it disappears...
I'm not really using it to cut, 98% of use will be for heating.
thanks both, that's a good explanation as to the whys of doing that sequence. Logical things are easy to remember.
Thanks for this, brilliant reply.
I understand what you say about leaving the pressure between bottle and gauges, I'll correct that from now on. makes perfect sense what you say...
Thank you, that's helpful, I'll try that tomorrow
Yes cutting nozzle is also a 2 piece, definitely for propane.
You slide one bit on top of the other then through the end and screw it on.
Sorry... Not a clue about the technical names..
I'm getting the bang when I finish what I'm doing. But...
Yes, I ditched all the acetylene kit and bought everything brand new for propane
yes, can see them on the photo of the bottles.
thank you.
that is different from what I have read everywhere. so is that the reason why I'm getting the bangs when i switch off? because I'm switching off the...
