If you're doing alot of painting then perhaps you should also be looking at some form of extraction? As far as PPE is concerned, you should always try to limit your exposure to the risk, with masks Etc being used when you've done everything else that you possibly can, and the risk is still...
Walking the cup is also done differently depending on the joint configuration, walking along a fillet is more of a twist your wrist left and right, where as walking on a flat surface is more of a figure of 8 movement rolling your wrist and using your arm a bit as well. A good technique to know...
Certainly a strange one! The only reason that I was leaning towards operator error is because (and I could be wrong), although there are obvious issues with mis matching the grade of consumable with stainless, I would have thought that the weld deposit would still fuse properly to the base...
Was he welding in pulsed spray or dip? Don't know whether it was the wire or the operator (would imagine that it would most likely be the latter), all I do know is that Stainless with MAG is a Bi%%H for LOF, whatever wire you use.
IMO Auto dark lids are nice for when you need to do lots of tacks, repetitive welds, or are struggling on your own to tack fiddley little things together, but are by no means necessary to produce good welds.
When you use the college ones, try giving the lenses a bit of a wipe before you use...
Clamp a bit of angle to the plate where you want the centre of the weld to be,then run a thinish cutting disc along the edge (don't go too mad though) to give you a nice line to follow. You can also do the same along the toes of the bead (you don't need to use angle for this) if you're doing...
I'm not the most experienced tigging Ally, but it Looks to me like you need to weld hotter and faster, 120a is nowhere near enough for 5 mm ally, hence why you're getting a white frosted bead. 50% ac balance 'll be giving the tungsten a hard time too, try setting it to about 70% EN and go from...
I'm afraid that I can't help you with your question, all I know about the brand is that according to some of the members on here they're very good machines.
Have a look in the 'for sale' section of the forum, there might be something of interest? ;)
A long shot, but if you type H-2099 into the search engine it comes back with a surfacing wire called ULTIMET, but as said, he most probably meant 29/9.
I'm no expert on such things, but the fact that it's German shouldn't make a difference being as you tested to EN 287-1.
I'm sure someone who knows more about it will be along soon to give you a more definitive answer.
TBH ASME, I agree with most of what you've been saying, and I know that you know what you're talking about. All I'm saying is that I don't think it's quite a simple as "If you're getting more professional then use your 7018s".
I mean, I think that it's important to point out (to others that...
Care to explain how using a 7018 over a 6013 makes you any more professional? I would have thought that a 'professional' would use the correct/best rod for the job in hand, whatever that may be, no?
The topic's been discussed on here a few times, and basically the manual's wrong. On R-Tech machines turning the balance knob Left will give a higher percentage of EN, and right will do the oposite. ;)
I always thought that 7018 had some iron powder and 7016 didn't, (although the link you posted would seem to suggest otherwise), AFIK apart from the reasons outlined by Drains, they're also prefered for open rooting because the weld pool freezes faster, making the back of it less prone to...
Interesting thread...
I was always led to believe (Generally speaking) the order of fastfreezingness (I'm claiming that one:laughing:) went;
Celulistics, Rutiles, Basics with the 7016 being about the same as a rutile and the 7018 being slower due to the iron powder in the flux?
I've come across the same thing myself, you're problem is that the tungsten is balling up to much (ie. a big ball that is much wider than the tungsten) and/or is contaminated. If the ball gets too big or you contaminate it, then snap it off and regrind.
Turn the balance down towards the EN...
