Why thank you.:D I was just "farting" around with two old pieces of scrap plate and wasn't really bothering with the results, but low-and-behold I got a peeler.
Regards,
Ian.
I got my first proper "peeler" today welding two pieces of plate steel together...:D 10mm plate using a 4mm 6013 rod, no idea how I achieved it.
At the end of the day, my opinion is my opinion. As you correctly pointed out, it's subjective. How much weight anyone reading this thread attaches to my posts is probably the same as they would attach to any other inexperienced beginners comments, including yours.
To be honest, the Aldi...
It's calling a spade a spade, something a lot of people are afraid to do these days - just in case they offend people's sensibilities.
I've tested about 8-10 of those rods and the result is always the same - rubbish! I'm calling it for what it is. Perhaps you got a different batch...
Yes George, I am entitled to my opinion (for what it's worth). I went out and bought these rods because they were cheap. At the end of the day, that was against the perceived wisdom in earlier threads about them, i.e. that they'd be cheap rubbish. This was later proved to be correct from...
If you want George, you can have whats left in the pack that I bought from Lidl. I've found what I like and I intend to stick with Bohler's and a couple of ones from eBay.

Ian.
There's no accounting for the terminally stupid.:( Mind you, that's why we have H&S everywhere syndrome as well as Risk Assessment for going to toilet. To be honest, we're over-regulated with this nonsense.

Ian.
According to this link, it means for use in low temperatures. ;)

Exactly! This is my point, what ever happened to the "can do" attitude we used to have? It's now "let's do a H&S study/risk assessment to see if it's safe to break wind"!

Ian.
I think that H&S is designed to prevent nature taking it's full course - killing off the stupid.:o If you think about it, the only reason lawnmowers have what used to be termed "idiot cartoons" on them was because some stupid fool put his/her fingers or feet whilst the blades were moving.

Me and ChrisB had a bash with the 4mm 6013's on a piece of scrap 8mm plate that he kindly donated.
We got some nice results as can be seen below in the first photo. I slowed down my rate of travel and copied Chris's example - that made a fair bit of difference.
Later on when the welder...
Hi Simon,
Talking of experimenting with rods, how did you get on with those 4mm 6013's I sent you? Did the boss bugger off giving you time to try them? LOL

Ian.
Hi George,
Personally, I'd go with the word of a sparky. My step dad was a time served sparky for over 20 years before a career change and he's a good source of knowledge about this kind of stuff. There's also a fair few people in here that are either sparkies or electrical engineers, I...
