Cheers guys,
i'll have another crack at it tomorrow, think i may have confused myself with shade settings. For some reason i'd got it into my head i needed a much higher setting than MIG, may have been thinking of the last time i used AC on some thickish Aluminium, it's me age you know ;-)
Hi all, this might be the strangest question but how do you see the weld pool?
Through my welding helmet it's either too dark and i can't see where i am, or too bright so i can't see anything when i've stopped. I'm guessing it's almost certainly 'operator error' and related to torch...
Hi Stecha05,
sounds like it could be similar to a fault i had on mine, could be down to a faulty wire speed potentiometer. If you don't want to send it back (or can't) might be worth getting someone qualified to have a look just in case.
Ok i know it's been quite a while but just thought i'd update this thread a little.
Turns out the main problem with my thermal arc was down to the fact the gas feed in connector was cracked (and had been for a while judging by the discolouration of the material!)
Managed to get that sorted and...

I'm using the same 0.6mm wire, argoshield...
The Thermal works ok on thicker stuff, but the trigger/gasflow/wirefeed seems delayed, just can't seem to get a good 'feel' perhaps due in part to the longer cabling. Other issue is the arc stabilisation just seems to go against what i'm doing and always seem to get too much burnback no matter...
Hi all,
i'm thinking of purchasing one of the Wolf 140 Migs to use.
I used to own a Clarke 150EN which served me well for many years until i decided to 'upgrade' to the Thermal Arc which i just cannot seem to get on with on thin bodywork material (0.9 to 1.2mm steel)
I just want a cheap...
Hi All Newbie here with a question about stud welding.
I've seen a stud welding attachment for MIG's on fleabay and wondered if anyone has used one with any success?
Failing that would it be better to go with a dedicated unit, i've a few dents to pull and want to do it as cleanly as...
