cleaned the horse hair air filter discs out the day i got it, as the outer one was caked up with what i presume was body filler dust.
Not changed the oil yet, when i do i want to run it for a bit to get it nice and warm, i think i need a non detergent 30 weight mineral oil (i used iso 32...
after waiting the 15+ hours for the 'Sterling brake and air line sealant' to 'cure', i ran the compressor upto full pressure today,
The danfoss PS-15 pressure switch is so nice compared to the £10 ebay cheapies i'm used to, set the turn off pressure to 135 psi, then set the differential so it...
Dug the box for the 6203 bearing out the bin :
So much for "German-made FAG brand" but i guess it's worded in such a way as that's just pointing out FAG is a German made brand, but you will get one made in portugual and one made in korea and nowt you can do about it.
Wasn't the fan making contact, the fan is just a plastic jobbie that goes on the end of the shaft externally, i never even got to putting the fan cover / air deflector piece on due to the noise.
The motor made the noise bare.. no fan and no pulley fitted.
I even tried re-assembling the motor...
well that was fun.
My first time changing bearings in an induction motor, i got 2 x FAG branded bearings from bearing boys, they stated 'German-made FAG brand' which is assumed was where they'd have been made.
i noticed the 6205 bearing had thinner sides to the outer and inner race, and i've...
i went for the 'standard' clearance bearings, of the open type the same as the originals (tho i guess at the least the small one has been replaced in this motor's 50 year life)
Ohhh. i knew there was something else i wanted... a pair of belts, as the ones i have.... one is slightly longer than...
I pulled the motor apart today,
The smaller bearing on the fan end is rougher than a badgers ****, the bigger one on the pulley end is smooth so i'm debating changing it.
I gather the 'SP' and 'CH' are not tolerances, and is more like ... CH is for Switzerland?
Finally managed to buy a hydro tester for a decent price, got a Boss branded one, rated to do 60 BAR for £30 off ebay, then had evri send it back to the seller claiming it was over weight on friday, got it today with instructions on the label telling them it's within the price band and to...
thankyou all for the info,
I will just have a plain concrete floor that was the old garage floor... assuming it's still there and not broken up. i'll lose some heat through the floor then i guess.
i have no use for a bay window that takes up ~85% of the wall area, but rather than remove it...
So it seems that building regs, planning permission, change of use and all that shouldn't affect me then?
If i was to put garage doors back on and park a car in there i guess that would change things? but that's not going to happen.
I do worry about house insurance, if the worst happened...
I live in a bungalow,
it originally had a separate double garage that is now a joined on habitable space.
The story goes that 2 old spinsters lived here, one of them got a boyfriend and planned to get married but the sisters still wanted to still live together, so the garage was converted into...
It's taken me almost a week to be able to have a go at welding more of my welding cart up, and to think i planned to get some more done the next day... my body had other ideas
(my immune system attacks stuff it shouldn't, like my joints, and as i'm getting older it's getting worse, and taking...
So... exactly 1 month since i posted the plans for my tig cart, i've finally started welding it up,
i get distracted easily, and getting a 50 year old compressor meant i was distracted for a week or so playing with it.
I really should have cleaned the black gunk off all the steel, my white...
Is there a way to find out the motor's bearings sizes from the serial number or any numbers on the plate?
Is there anything i need to watch out for when i take the end caps off the motor to change the bearings ? flying spring loaded bits, things i may damage using brute force etc?
ahhh, thanks for that info.
I've discounted the real cheap pressure testers which seem to rely on the pump seals to keep the pressure in the system... i also read that the tin they are made of fatigues quickly and you end up with the pump body in your hand after 2 uses.
I had been looking at...
Had a little play with the compressor today,
The motor is the noisy bit, sounds like it'll need new bearings, not something i've done before, but hopefully this motor is designed to be serviced, and it's just a case of taking the end caps off and pressing the bearings out and new ones in.
I...
I'm in 2 minds about fitting castors, or putting it in it's doghouse using the wheeled board thing it's on now, and putting it on anti-vibration mounts (which i'm trying to figure out if they are anything more than large car engine mounting rubbers)
I'll definitely change the oil (reading...
