True, though neither does my old cheap one AFAIK. Occasionally need to leave it somewhere lighter than the garage to recharge it, but it's at least 6 years old now and the batteries still seem fine. I guess they'll die eventually, but the lens must use a minute amount of power.
Well it's going back. Has adjustable darkening 9-13 (with grind switch) and looking at a bright torch, the darkening varies. But doing fairly low amp TIG (70-80A) there's so little darkening it's hurting my eyes, even on 13. That's not right. My old (fixed darkness) mask is noticeably darker.

Saw Aldi have some auto-darkening masks at £23. Very tempted to pick up one as a spare at that price, but assume they can't possibly be any good. Anyone taken a punt on one?

Agreed, I'll be careful to try and test before I break stuff. Seems pretty likely they're same since I presume the same foot pedal is compatible (will have to check that).
