Hi,
I’m using a large cylinder of.. Hobbyweld 5 (copied from there website) is a unique blend of Argon, Carbon Dioxide and Oxygen gas mix (often referred to as a tri-mix or an argon shield).
It does say it’s perfect for mig welding thin metal? thank you.
I do have the manual, it says min 1 w/s 5, it just looks like a bit too much weld but probably my technique, I’ll keep practicing of course and tweaking as I go.
Hi guys,
I’ve done a few quick test tack welds, on the rear quarter panel that’s coming off, what one do you think is near the mark (if any) I’m using a Clarke mig 130 en
It doesn’t have much in the way of settings. W/s is wire speed, it has min 1 or 2 and max 1 or 2, I’m using Argon gas, 0.8...
Thanks for the advice guys, much appreciated.
With some thought in mind, when I get the shell up on the rollover jig, I will be adding a strengthening plate on the inside of the tunnel so will make it slightly longer to go on the inside of the plate I’ve welded in. The reason being I will be...
Thanks for the info, very interesting.
I’m still doing some research, but I may have had some luck with the engine. It’s not the original, the engine plate has long gone, when I removed the engine I had access to the numbers on the block and gearbox. Also took the cover off the cam to read the...
Did similar to my first mini in the 80’s
I know where you’re coming from, although it’s nice to have a car I can work on without having to plug in a laptop.
yes it apparently got a new panel in the 70’s to get a mk2 look. It was not the best of jobs, the whole rear panel is hanging off. Fortunately the rest of the shell is correct, chassis plate and fe number are original:)
Hi all, I’ve been over in the beginners mig section getting some great advice so thought I’d start a build thread.
A couple of weeks ago I picked up a 1960 Austin seven, the lower 6 inches are pretty rotten
I’ve stripped most of it out including the engine.
Have braced the shell and
Ordered a...
Great advice, much appreciated.
I’ll report back on the next stage.. plug welding the half floor panel into place. Cutting the old one out today and it’s being a bit stubborn in places.
Take care.
Thank you, much appreciated. Operating the handbrake feels good, tiny bit of movement however I’m sure that will stop once the floor goes in, there is very little holding this shell together at the moment :)
