Not an option to let it go to the sky, other than the sills, it's in ok condition. Unfortunately there are no panels and nothing to go by. I also love how ugly the van is.
I've now cut off the inner sill at the back to expose more, also cut part of the floor at the front wheel arch where the...
Hi all
After getting my little mig welder, I started repairing some panels and although they have come out ok, I am out of my depth when it comes to the sill.
Not sure what is going on but someone has certainly played about with this before so I don't really have a place to start.
First...
Just a question, I can get a 4x8 sheet of galvanised mild steel for £20 locally, could I use that to make the sills?
I understand you have to grind the galvanised part off on the weld sections (so pretty much all of it) but would it work or is it more hassle than its worth
So an update.
I have found someone who can make me them but they won't be done till Wednesday.
They have cost £60 but at least I don't have to mess around with bending them into shape.
I will update you all when I get them and let you know how I got on.
Hi everyone
Last night I started to take all the paint away and low and behold, there were more rust patches to I have started taking them off.
I've spent all day today trying to find someone who could make me a set but no one does this anymore and the one person I found wanted £1000, Yep you...
I have the Clarke 135te and although I have only just started welding, I am getting the nice splatter sound. My gas rate is 10l/min and my wire feed is about 6 or just after.
My gas is 5% argon but I am welding car panels so nothing thick.
Wow, looking at those pictures and the links makes me feel a whole lot better.
I'm going to remove all the paint from the sills tomorrow and see if there's any other signs of rust no matter how small. I may look at rolling my own sills.
I'll update you all tomorrow.
It's a Nissan S Cargo
unfortunately there are no replacement panels otherwise I would go straight for a swap at least that way I know they were done.
I've been hitting the sills with a hammer and there is one other spot on the sill about the same size and about 2 ft along from that one and...
Thank you everyone for your feedback.
Before starting on the van I practiced on 3mm bits of metal, that seemed a breeze so I then went on to 2mm metal sheets, I seemed to be able to do a complete run. I then changed to 1mm and again I managed to do a run although you can see a tiny tiny mark...
Hi everyone
I've been reading this forum for the last few weeks and thought I understood enough to get started but how wrong I was.
I have an old van and unfortunately the welder I was going to use up and left the country and I couldn't find another one so I decided to give it a go myself...
