How long do people think Epoxy is ok on a body as I’ve considering recently building all the car up as it’s going to need tweaks possibly and brackets with it being a conversion project? Then once built and tested I can strip it back down and sort out painting it (less risk of it getting...
I’ve got to stitch weld in some repair panels where I’ve got some rust/rot to cut out around window frames etc.
I was looking at the Upol Zinc Weld primer? Once welded in, I’ll try to spray some wax treatment behind the panels/repairs where I can as well
I’d read the sticky at the top of the page regarding 2k which is what had made me not think about doing it
Our smart repair guy said you have to change the masks every few uses if the filters are looking blocked, but he’s only using the 3M filtered ones, same as I used with my Epoxy
I had a conversation today with a guy who we use for our smart repairs (but he does bigger work as well), and he was asking about my project. He asked what colour I was going, and I said that I was going to have to use cellulose as doing it on my drive and I can’t justify the cost of an surfed...
None of the pitting is structural on mine, some of it that looks bad (also has pin holes) I’m going to cut out and replace so I can try and access the panel behind to clean as well, but I’ve also got some surface pitting in a couple of places along the roof gutter. Not sure what I’m going to do...
Well I had resprayed it once before in cellulose a few years ago and I was advised that if the paint was ok then no need to take back to bare metal, but I decided to redo a few bits on the shell which involved going back to bare metal and found rust/corrosion which has made me take it all back...
This is my first time using any kind of 2 pack paint, and I was going to get the Jotamastic but went with Ajlelectronics recommendation to use Letcher and have to say it went on great, only got one run that I could see due to an awkward place. Appeared to dry quick as well, but will leave it now...
Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for your advice leading upto today. Managed to get the shell sprayed with Letcher Epoxy Primer. Still a few more areas to clean up, and areas to repair then top up the Epoxy
I bought mine from a company called CastWorx on Ebay, best thing I ever invested in for working on the shell!
Since buying I’ve tweaked it for my own use with mounts and I’ve also recently fitted 10” pneumatic wheels purely so I can push it outside on my gravel driveway to do any messy jobs...
I wanted to media blast it, but couldn’t afford the quotes I was given and don’t have the facilities to do it myself so that’s why I’m painstakingly doing it all with wire wheels and sanding
Yeah I’m just covering with the Epoxy to help protect it all whilst I’m doing more repairs and I’ll top it up in the areas I repair. Once all repaired, filler work and seam sealing done and another coat of Epoxy, it’ll get its topcoat
I’ve now rinsed all my shell with some warm soapy water then dried it all and blow dried it. I now need to panel wipe it all, clean a few more areas, sand it all again and another final panel wipe before hopefully getting my Epoxy on
I’m well off needing any at the minute, not even bought my top coat or anything as got a few bits to do to the shell, but appreciate the offer thank you
Yeah unfortunately I don’t have the equipment or facilities to use 2k so think I’m going to be using Cellulose and was then thinking of using Upol 1k clear over the top, that’s why I wasn’t sure if I needed Cellulose high build over the Epoxy before the top coat
As you can probably tell I’m a novice when it comes to bodywork and that’s the reason for asking peoples best experiences and opinions so as i can try and get it right
