Hi all,
I'm looking at an investment in a hydraulic punch for holings in mild steel material and I wondered if anyone can shed light on how tonnage pressures of the machine translate in to hole size through given thicknesses. The machine in question has a 50 TM working pressure which gives a...
Bit of a late reply but thank you all for your feedback. I'm still practicing and getting a bit better. Do people who have done this procedure have a preference of stringer to weaving on this. I normally weld fillets without any torch movement but I have been wondering if weaving would help...
Hi all,
I have recently started work for a new client and one of my first projects to them in the coming weeks is a bunch of 254x73uc raking props for facade retention. They are going to be site welding the props to some cast in plates (I'm supplying these) and this evening they have requested...
Hi all,
I've got an upcoming butt weld procedure so I'm getting some practise in. I'll be working on 350x150x12mm S355J2 with a 60 degree vee prep, a 1-2mm root face and 2 mm root gap. I've been practising on some scrap at my workshop and I'm struggling to maintain the consistent penetration...
Thanks again all. @Radar 3 yep all these have been checked and are operating as they should be. No rust or debris on the rollers.
@Agroshield thanks for the suggestion but no other machinery operations seem to have an affect on current etc. Wire is the same as it always is and yes I do...
Thank you all for your replies (I think)
My current etc remains pretty stable throughout the weld, certainly not falling outside the parameters of the WPS and whilst it may actually be fine it does result in quite an uneven weld profile with peaks and troughs as opposed to a nice smooth profile...
Hi all,
Apologies as I am aware that this has been posted before but it didn't seem to yield any solutions. I'm running a Murex Challenger 400 for my structural steel fabrication. It's been a great machine but intermittently suffers from the following problem:
I dial in my settings for a nice...
I thought I'd go one step further with a working example as I'm still trying to find a resolution (with the help of my RWC) for, I'm sure, the plenty of firms like mine...
Got a project starting tomorrow. New garage build on a large residential property. 3 x SHS columns and 2 UC beams sitting...
Thanks for your posts all, denlow yours was certainly very helpful, clear and concise. I was never in any doubt that my workshop needed to obtain 1090 quals in order to produce the fabricated steel we do, even if a large portion of it is for the domestic building trade. Paul you cleared up...
Nice to see this thread still providing relevant and constantly changing information. It's nice to have a place to trust rather than countless places spouting off incorrect information.
If you'll allow me to stay on topic but go off in a different direction...
We are a 1090 approved fabrication...
This was a really useful thread to read through. My bandsaw is temporarily out of action so the propane cutting kit will be getting some use over the next few days for sure. Is it “essential” that my propane has a gauge on it? My oxy has but my propane hasn’t and I’m wondering if I should be...
Thanks very much for all your responses. I usually order about 5 bottles at a time from BOC so maybe I'll try swapping out a light bottle for a universal/heavy and run some of my own tests and see how it fares up. Yes light is what my procedures and approvals were run in on, and I appreciate...
Hi all,
Haven't posted much so go easy on me (I have made a good effort at searching for similar posts though so hopefully I won't be repeating to much).
The weld set up at my structural steel company has always used Argoshield Light and I'm wondering after experiencing some difficulties in...
This is exactly what I have done. I have a robust Murex Challenger 400 MIG that was step only but due to CE conformance I have now fitted a cali box that gives digital displays of amperage etc.
Apologies for the delay in replying, a busy weekend. The material is all 1.5mm folded components not actually a great deal of welding going on, only a few small ones if I'm honest. That being said I took advice from some fellow industry guys with a few more years under their belts than me and...
Hi all,
I've recently had an inquiry for some Stainless welding work and seeing as I'm quiet at the moment and also looking to branch in to other skills I want to give it a go. It's stainless to stainless work and my machine is a Murex Challenger 400. I'm running it on an Argoshield light mix...
