I'm not a welder tho, had never welded anything in my life before, but I'm too cheap to buy cars unless I really really have to so I just bought a welder, sliced the rust out, dot to dot welded a new bit plate on, smothered it in tigerseal on the underside and body filler on the bodywork upper...
No you can't get 0.6mm flux core like you can with gas, so I just used 0.8mm flux core and bashed on with it, it was middle of december... I was welding in a snowstorm trying not to get electrocuted and as I say the car is 19yrs old and worthless so I wasn't giving a crap about "structural...
Pffft! I welded my cars OS rear quarter a year n a half ago... kept burning holes in it with the flux core (0.6mm guv!) so I thought **Language** it, turned the heat down got enough blu tac welds into it to hold it on... gave it a good kick with my foot, didn't come off... aah good enough for me...
Yes, this is not great at all I know, but I'm learning via myself and whatever YouTube videos I can find basically :/
By wet in you mean appear through the back? or appear flatter? I'm not sure what that means.
I'll be back out tomorrow daytime attempting to piece together scraps and improve...
If wire speed=amps and lowest wire speed= 30 amps and the thin metal requires 30 amps then surely I can't up the wire speed? maybe I'm missing something?
I'm going back out tomorrow daytime to practice some more... I'll up the wire feed
Thanks! I'm conscious of burning through but I'll try...
She will and it's her house... I have to keep my little Map Gas blowtorch in the boot of my car :/ Sucks but that's the way it is, gas is simply too impractical for my circumstances man as are gazebos etc and money wise I simply can't spend any more cash on this welding projec, It's going to...
OK... so I'm probably inviting hate and "your ****, don't bother trying to weld" type comments at uploading todays "work" but here goes, you guys might be more constructive in your criticism than some forums. I posted my results to my car forum and was met with a lot of those type comments, it...
Ok so my 5kg wire arrived today, it's fecking mahoosive and I'm certain without even looking that the reel bore is much bigger than my machines spindle/holder mathingy..... is there an adapter or something I can buy? Also will a cebora 130 spin a heavy reel like that? it weighs a ton :/
Haha I got a massive tub of body filler... plus a grinder and paint makes me the welder I ain't! Lol wrong place to say that huh.
On a serious note though I really can't justify buying a container of gas that I'm not allowed to keep in the house, don't fancy driving round in the car with it...
Guys, what is the technical name for those cylindrical connectors that have the barbed clip type ends and one end screws into the gun at the metal block and the other has the sleeve liner slotted into it (also one for a gas line) ... I need to buy replacements but cannot for the life of me find...
Cheers pal! Yeah the flux core is definitely going to be a massive challenge on metal so thin, I've ordered sheet metal in 0.8mm, perhaps should've gotten 0.6 or .07 instead I'm not sure but it'll do. I've already spent a whack recently and funds are depleted so I'm going to have to make do with...
Uhhh wow right, I think I'll just keep running electrode positive then, more spatter but meh it's a 17yr old Micra with various shades of silver patched paint :D
Yes it's going to be incredible fun :/... but I've bought 5kg of wire, spent a hunner and fifty on welder, mask, consumables etc and also bought chassis black paint and zinc primer to do the entire undercarriage after I'm done welding so significant money investment so I'm in it till it's...
Can I just change leads around to reverse the polarity of the welder or something? Or can I just weld using the wrong polarity and the welds be "acceptable" or if less than acceptable "a grinder and paint" ? I'm really trying to not spend money where I can help it lol, as tight as that sounds, I...
You'd get blown off your feet if you stood outside where I live, I'm live atop a couple very very long hills at the highest point of my town which is in a high up area in general. There's absolutely no chance of uncontaminated welds here. Doing it in a garage or unit isn't an option for me and I...
I'm really just trying to get upto a standard good (or bad) enough to pass an MOT, I DO want to learn the finer art of welding in general when I have more time and a running car but right now I just want to get "good enough" for the MOT tester to look at it, roll his eyes and groan but give me a...
