Got a little more done. Welding nearly finished. Put some seam sealer on so I can see light at the end of the tunnel, as far as the welding work goes at least.
Question
Would you cover it all in sealer? I plan to paint stone chip over it all but should I sealer it all first? also, should I...
I bought one of these a few months ago. So far I’ve only used the mig but want to start to tig with it. The tig is dc only so you can’t do aluminium work with it. I only really want it for stainless atm anyway. If I get on well at it I can go for a tig machine later.
I was told that the tig...
Haven’t got to watch episode 26 yet but I’ve watched all 25 episodes in the last 4-5 weeks. Learnt a few very useful little tricks as well as being very impressed with the awesome attention to detail.
If only I had more space I’d be at this sort of thing.
And maybe more skill,

A bit more sorted over the weekend. Drivers side arch and tub in and welded. I need to sort both ends yet but that shouldn’t be any major head ache. Shouldn’t need too much filler either. I’m very happy with how it’s going.
I’m in Toomebridge so it’s a bit of a run. I’ll get it sorted one way or another. Progress is very slow so I’m not ready for it yet. Just trying to get organised
Thanks for the replies. Dcal I know you have mentioned jotan before. I’m not ready for paint yet but just asked as I was in fyfes yesterday. If I get a chance I’ll check out those places out
I’m doing a lot of welding and tidying up underneath my car. All the info online for classic and restoration work is saying to use epoxy primer. I was in my local motor factors this morning, fyfes for anyone in Northern Ireland, and they had no idea what I was on about. They did have red oxide...
10 valves I’m guessing?
Davy put a 20v into an 86/7 ur he had and wound the boost up. Sounded savage. He built a few of them and currently has a porsche 944 s2 getting the 5 cylinder treatment. John has an s2 coupe. Went ok but still sounded the part.
It’s like a lottery with them. I think if it let’s go after I’ve gone to the bother of all this and paint etc, I’ll maybe go the Chevy v8 route. I wouldn’t be bothered spending a fortune building a thing that will never be quick. But if it holds together then brilliant. They are a nice toy and...
I’m not overly worried. Mines an early 3.4 so no real issues with bore score and it has the dual row bearing. Less known casualties. If it blows, it blows.
Aye things are a bit clearer but I’m not gona cut the arch yet. I was off work today so I got a bit of the welding done on the drivers sill as in the picture above. Not the best job in the world but the skirt will cover it. definitely well enough fixed to go another 10 years. I cut the passenger...
Most of the outer sill is finally welded in. Just the rear 6 inches or so still to fit but I have a rough piece made. I won’t do any more until I figure out the arch scenario.
I might go ahead and cut the passenger side sill out and start to that. At least I have an idea of what to expect with it
Thanks for the tip. I haven’t touched the passenger side yet. I made a lot of the back of the inner sill and floor last night along with the bottom of the tub/ wheel well. I can clearly see now how to make the end of the outer sill. I clamped the old sill up as a reference to work to.
All the...
I know what you mean exuptoy but I’d say I’m just over thinking it.
I’ll maybe go ahead and sort the end of the sill and floor section, tack a rough piece into the bottom of the tub and then grow a set of balls and cut the arch out.
I might hit YouTube for a few tips on the arch before I cut it
Some advice needed on the next phase. I need to make up at fit the rear section of the sill and the wheel arch. The sill is already cut out and new bits just need to be tweaked to fit. Thing is, do I go ahead And fit them or do I cut the arch out first? I’m guessing sort the sill and then cut...
