Clearly, because I asked it...
Yet you respond asking me how I’d get electricity there?! There’s this invention called a GENERATOR! :ashamed:
Not a lot of wind or rain down in the south at the moment.
But thanks for the reply.
I live in a flat & want to practice welding, in readiness to weld on my camper.
I don’t have a driveway & my van is parked on the street. The first thing I’m looking to weld is an inner and outer sill.
Am I allowed to weld in the street??? It’s a quiet street & can wait until people aren’t...
So what do I clamp to, when it’s fixing a hole in a body panel?
In practice, obviously to one of the pieces, but then the bodywork is flush... what then???
I’ve got gauntlets. An auto dimmer mask. And I’ve got an Adams gas bottle not disposable. Including regulator.
& it was made quite clear that we’d all end up buying very different welders so there wasn’t much focus on setting up (as it would be likely a waste of time) more time for practice!
Wow - can’t believe some of the responses! I’ve been on a welding day course, I’m trying to educate myself further by asking questions.
Setting up machines wasn’t covered on the course & I can’t find any mention of the clamp in the tutorials! Which is why I’ve asked!
I’m not stupid...
I’ve fed fresh wire through to the gun.
I’ve hooked up the gas & regulator.
I switched the knobs at the bottom as I’m using gas.
Now, do I need to attach the clamp as I’m using gas??
Is there anything else I’m forgetting?
Thank you!!
Thanks, is that item the same as this:

The weldequip is nearly £50 inc shipping! Are there cheaper options out there?
Picked up gas as the final piece to my "starting welding" puzzle - though not sure where I'll be keeping it as I live in a tiny flat!
Driving home... realise I don't have a regulator.
Which do I need for this type of bottle? It's an Adams Gas bottle through a local supplier.
Does it matter...
I don't really have storage for a gas bottle... unless I store it in the van when I'm not using the van.
Does anyone know large stores that are open on a Sunday where you get gas either disposable or otherwise?
I’ve bought a second hand Clarke 90, plan to use with argon/co2gas (disposable initially as I’m not sure where I could store the gas).
I’m welding outside, but inside a campervan.
What wire should I be using with 1mm steel?
Also, would 1 disposable bottle do a few practice lines and about...
