to be fair, I've been thinking about multiple grinders. I really fancy a paddle switch grind for those jobs where it's on and off, on and off. The bosch on I've got is decent but turning it on is a 2 handed operation.
Any advice on butt welding when on of the two materials has a tendency to...
When I say outside, I am squeezed into the boot of a car, but the car is outside! My bottles wills last not time at all at 16lpm, but a I guess good welds are more important, I'll try that tomorrow.
Ok I did a little more welding today.
Using a 40grit flap disc was WAY quicker at griding down welds! Haha what are solid Griding discs actually for?!
I ended up having to back the welder right off to the its minimum setting to stop it blowing through the steel on the car.
So either the steel...
The manual suggested 2-3litres per minute. I set it to 3 with the trigger pulled. That said I am working outside so that probably isn't helping, I'll up it to more like 4-6.
Another thing I am probably getting wrong is that whilst I am trying to keep the gun about 1/2 from the work surface I do...
I'd already hit it with a prep disc, but this was to remove the paint not specifically trying to brighten up the metal.
Do you find a flap disc cuts down welds faster than a grinding a normal disk? The welds I did on the car today were pretty ugly and will need a lot of grinding down and it...
Good tips. Especially the line, I find it doesn't feed as well as I could imagine a better welding doing so.
A bit more priceu, but I also wanted to convert it to a Europlug; because having the gun permanently attached is a bit of a pain in my current setup (I am working outdoors and I have to...
I bought it "used", but I don't think the previous guy had used it at all.
I did some core flux welding with it last year on thicker material, but in terms of hours it wouldn't have been many.
Once I backed the regulator off a bit I could hear the gas coming from the gun, I can't hear any leaking from the regulator area.
So out of those tacts shown above, do any stand out as particularry good or bad? All of them penetrate all of the way though.
I tried taking 1 2 Max 7 and doing...
Note the reason why the tacks are important is because it's for car body panels, so rather than run a bead, I am going to be stringing together lots of small tacks and cool the panel down between them to avoid warping.
It is a disposable. But I think I've got it sussed now. Turns out using a Clarke bottle with a Sealey regulator, if you tighten the regulator all the way down it doesn't want to flow. I back the regulator off and no it seems fine.
I just did a batch of welds, here at the photos; the numbers...
Ah, it seems like gas isn't being delivered. When I pull the trigger on the gun there is an initial hiss of the gas and then the needle on the regulator hits 0 and them there is not more release of gas.
If I start to unscrew the regulator, then I can hear that the canister still has pressure...
Hi, I have a MIG151en and I am trying to weld 1.0mm mild steel sheet, I am using Argon-CO2 mix gas and 0.6mm wire.
The manual recommends the following:
I tried "1 3 MAX" and it worked but the "bacon crackling" sound seems a bit intermittent when doing tack welds. I then tried "A 3 MIN" and the...
I am not sure I follow.
Both the SLG and the fast mover kits come set up with 1.3mm tip as well as a 1.8 tip.
Or are you talking about the mini/touch up gun? Which have 1.0mm tips - would they be no good at all for primer - even for very small jobs?
Sorry if they're daft questions, there is a...
I am doing some body work on a car I am restoring. I am new to all of this and I've bought the car to learn these skills; although my skill and experience will be what determine the quality of the final finish I do want to do the best job I can.
I am building up all of the tools that I need to...
Compressor is 3/8BSP out. Air/Oil Filter is 1/2BSP in and out.
I'd rather not use reducers and just use the right size from the off - as I said, my compressor is just powerful enough to do what I need so I want to minimise losses along the way.
I've got a hose right now, I'll have to see how...
