Hi there.
I have some intricate thin sheet metal stuff coming up, too delicate for mig, could be tigged but it would be difficult. I haven't used a pulse mode before, but it looks like it could be just the thing I need.
Can anyone recommend a small machine with a decent pulse system?
Many thanks.
Yeah, I've tried hooking it and winding it around things. There are two problems with that though. The height of the machine is perfect so any hooking arrangement makes things worse or more difficult, and I'm changing wire quite often for different materials so I have to unhook it, lay it out...
Hi there. I don't know what the technical term is for the bit between the torch and the machine, hose, cable?
Anyway, I've been looking around for a shorter version of mine, people seem to think 3 meters is the shortest anyone on the face of the planet could possibly ever want. Ideally I...
Yeah, I have a voltage and speed control, that's it, no fancy stuff.
So I'm going to struggle with any 2-3mm aluminium? That would lead me back towards tig which I've tried, but I'm paraplegic so I can't utilise a pedal. I did try a thumb wheel torch but there was just too much going on for...
Hi there.
After a month or two using a cheapo Amazon welding box I picked up used Jasic 250c, a bit overkill for what I need, but so much nicer to use. The reason for the upgrade was the ability to use a spool gun for aluminium. So I watched a couple of tubes and went at it, and, well, I'm...
Hi there.
Because lugging a big gas bottle around is a right pain in the ar** I thought I’d try some cored wire. Odd thing is I can’t make it do a thing.
I get a lovely gentle sizzle sound, a load of extra pixies, but no penetration at all, it’s like the wire is boiling on the surface and...
There are loads of torches out there with this kind of control, but they're pretty much all machine dependent, all needing different K rated pots for the machine, plus connectors etc. I have no problem wiring something together, which it may come to, but without knowing what's going on it's...
All good thoughts, thank you. I did think before posting a new thread for this, but didn’t want it getting lost.
I’m classed as T12 paraplegic, classic bike collision spinal chord injury, so basically no sensation or muscle control below waist level. Some nerves still get through, but nothing...
Hi folks.
I started a thread the other day, asking advice about torches with swivel heads. Some good info in there, and I won't muddy the waters with this question...
Again due to the wheelchair and pointless legs I can't use a foot pedal, so for those out there with experience of them, what...
Hi folks.
I managed to get everything moved inside today, the bedroom doesn't look quite the same, but hey!
I'm getting on a lot better, alu puddles are moving nicely and I'm even laying down a few good beads, not neat, not particularly tidy, but certainly mechanically sound, and that'll do...
I finally found the marking on the Torch!
It says SR-26. If I do a google for SR26 I get a load of WP listings.
So, is an SR26 actually a WP26? Or is it something completely different?
Many thanks.
Hi folks.
I'm practicing with some alu, somewhere between 2 and 3mm thick. No matter how I try to adjust the settings I get instant over balling and heating of the tungsten, and alu. I'm having to turn the amps way down off the scale, I wasn't getting this the other day, so I don't think it's...
Hi folks.
I just bought a set of glass/pyrex/whatever cups and gauze ends. The gauze ends and supplied collets fit lovely, the torch has a much sturdier feel, but the glass, which I assume is just meant to push over the white end cover, just aren't going to stay there. The cover supplied has...
Hi folks, I'm glad to see this thread is still being followed, some of the most useful information I've found.
One thing that would be really useful (which may have been covered, I haven't read every thread) is manufactures decoding sheet of knobs. (snigger)
They all call the tig variables...
Wow thanks guys, great responses, very interesting reading. There are a couple of very well made points, I haven't used this torch enough to know if it is actually any good, and if I was to spend money I wouldn't really know what I was looking for. But, better quality kit is always going to...
Hi folks.
A couple of days ago, while out in the garage trying to blowtorch two bits of aluminium box together, and failing miserably, repeatedly, I decided it was time to bite that old bullet and go out for a welding machine. I've been putting it off for many years. I have torched aluminium...
