I hear that Richard, and it sounds good to me. I do want to get the basics down solid. Right now, arc length and torch angle takes a lot of concentration. I want it be 'automatic' and effortless, AND comfortable. I am always struggling with positioning - me, the torch, the workpiece, the rod...
I have no idea why I needed some one to say this but I am glad you did Tom. I do have a foot pedal and I use it (with minimal success) to try to prevent myself from getting out of control. It is very sensitive. I can see the benefit when properly applied though. My pedal-work needs finesse. A...
some improvement with practice. Still not comfortable but I might actually be on the right path. Top pic is the T though the camera makes it look flat, to me anyway. The hard part for me is maintaining smooth constant torch speed and rod travel over the length of the run along the corner, and...
@Liquid Metal; Sounds great, will give those a try. Appreciate your comments!
I did some more earlier, being mindful of Richard's advice, vast improvement :) Also, I said before I tried a butt joint, but it was actually a lap joint - just for the record. I will try a real butt joint next...
Right! the tutorial - awesome. Thank you.
Pictures --> or at least a few laughs. As requested Sir.
Richard, that's exactly what is happening, (I think :) ). I didn't know why though. Arc length was long (as played back in my mind) and the effect as you described is reflected in my results. I...
I will try to use the lingo. For the life of me I cannot get a root pass fillet weld on the inside corner length of a T-joint. Just working with 1/8" (3mm) cold-rolled low carbon steel. Running around 120Amps, 3/32 2% Lanth, 1/16 ER70S-2, 18cfh, #8 cup. I tried dabbing then lay-wire. I mostly...
I'm with you Brad, as well your sentiment that no pulse sucks. For me, mainly because I just wanted it, but also it seems useful. I am over it though. This machine has everything else I need/want. I love this thing and welding is so freaking fun! I have only run a half dozen or so beads total...
I will gents. I can pretty much sum up my welding experience by counting the total number of 'dabs'. I'm not even into the realm of 'runs' yet. I hope to get in a few hours a week over the next month or so. Maybe I will be able to start making things in the summer.
Thank you everyone for...
So I went for it. Did 4 beads total. The 1st three attempts (and fails) on the left, the 4th and last on the right - it clicked, at least a little bit. Recalling a video about things new welders do wrong, I corrected my steep torch angle and made sure I dabbed in the puddle, not the arc or in...
Richard! Correct again Sir. I do have AC Freq (40 - 250) - phewf! Helps when you select the correct button combo - MOD + LEFT vs MOD + RIGHT. The other stuff is nice but it's just the pulse that takes away from the elation a little.
Thanks again brother!
Thank you Wyn and thank you Richard! I think you summed it all up quite accurately, based on what I am seeing in the manual and on the machine. No pulse, no background current adjustment, no wave selection/adjustment (+/- half) and I don't think I have AC Freq adjustment either - I wish I had...
Thanks guys. I'm stoked to give it a go and learn. No regrets with the purchase. I got it for a song. Fron-US wanted it gone (old stock) and I, for the first time ever, was talking to the right person at the right time. Given the deal ($,000's!), availability and even the extra amps, it still is...
It is a brand spanking new MagicWave 2500. The quality comments I have reaad don't do it justice. This thing is nice. For some reason, I thought I was getting the 'Job' model, even read all the 'Job' instructions - LOL. The 'Job' model of this previous gen machine was never an option to begin...
