I have a clarke 150 Gasless mig 0.9 wire. and wish to weld hinges to an iron gate, any advice please?

Hi everyone Gerry Here(newbie) I recenty picked up a mig 102ng Clarke 2nd hand been used once,NOW I have used it okay to start with went to use it today and I seem to have developed erratic wire feed, would a dirty liner be the problem? everything seems to be working fine.
