I thought this on my GYS but on closer inspection you will probably find that the complete case fitting is slightly moving within the case itself once the euro torch is connected so they are moving as one, after all the torch does protrude a fair bit from the casing, I was thinking about making...
Thanks for the reply
just wasn’t sure if it was something I was doing wrong! I always clean back around 15-20mm from all weld edges anyway even on plug welds, I thought that maybe the new steel might have been either a better or less quality beneath the zinc coating.
I’m welding...
Probably a stupid question but is it normal to see less heat blueing on zintec sheet with mig than on untreated bright steel sheet? Wasn’t sure if settings need to be raised for zintec?
have only just seen this message David,
It’s not patronising at all mate luckily enough I have the right amount of common sense to not have made that mistake, but I know exactly what you mean and can see how someone could easily make that mistake and Also a good thing to mention on here for...
that what I wanted to hear thank you, makes things less fiddly especially with my sausage fingers as I can just cut the existing cable outside the casing and crimp the end and attach it to the panel mount, I don’t even have to drill a hole as it fits in the existing cable gromet cable restraint...
Have already got the panel mount and male dinze plug as you pictured, just not sure if I need to upgrade to the larger cable within the machine casing Also. Also have no problem with crimping large cable I have done many cars in the past.
I’m looking for advice with reference to extending the ground cable on a GYS Novomig which is similar to the GYS Smartmig 162, I have purchased the Parweld Pro-Grip SB150 4 Metre Euro-Torch from Weldquip so want to match that length with the ground cable.
The machine is only fitted with a 2mtr...
Yes you are probably right as mine does have made in ROC (Republic of China) on the box, but from what I’ve read so are the parts for the gys Smartmig version but they are assembled in France! but don’t hold me on that as I’m just repeating what I’ve read that other people have said.
As...
I have now made a 21,000lm 120w 12v work Light on an adjustable clamp so will give that a try in the new yr, just hope it’s not too bright that it triggers my auto switch helmet.
From what I’ve found out they are the same machine and painted green for amazon and the like! I’m not an expert infact the first bit of welding I’ve done apart from a small amount about 9yrs ago is on the learn mig welding section of this forum.
There might be cheaper migs out there but I...
I’ve got another ? With reference to tip and shroud position what is the preferred?
1, tip below
2, tip flush
3, tip proud
Presuming you keep the stick out from the tip the same does it only effect the shielding or does it effects anything else, would having the tip proud be the best option...
Thanks Matt for your input & advice it’s been clear and concise & to the point where I can understand it which is a rare thing for me!
The welds were very sooty which I thought to be a shielding problem but on now wondering it could be caused by the weld through primer/zintec coating?
time for...
I was welding at 15 Lpm at the torch using Hobbyweld 5 it was outside on a bench or I should say under a carport with a fence all round & also shielded the bench with ply so was well shielded from wind, I will wrap some tarps around the van so shield me more than the weld because I hate working...
So I’m guessing that in the situation where I can’t get close enough (a longer stick out) I would need on this machine to maybe switch it to max and increase gas to help shield?
I’m starting to think I might of been better off getting a normal machine where you have more adjustment? All the...
As I’ve said I can guarantee my welding will probably get less tidy when I try it under the van, I would say it’s 10 times easier on a bench when you can get your head right up close to view the puddle and rest your hand properly! Time will tell,
Not looking forward to plug welding upside down...
This was my fist and only welding attempt which I did 9yrs ago pulse welding using a sip weldmate 130, so I think I’ve improved a little or it might be because the GYS is a totally better machine for A beginner with not so much to think about.
I didn’t realise that the stick out could make that...
Some good advice Gents thank’s
I know what you mean by different circumstances! as when welding on me back under the van and not being able to to get the torch in a certain position or your head nearer is another ball game to keep the weld looking good.
It’s an auto mig like the gys smartmig 162 so only has a thickness setting and a A or B power setting and a wire speed dial, what would you suggest more or less wire speed or power B
Wasn’t sure if there needed to be more penetration on 2mm steel, the blobs were where I tacked little slits where the metal was folded which are to high maybe should of kept the trigger pressed a tad longer?
