Thanks for that, for some reason I was expecting the original Colchester part to be more complicated than a through drilled bolt. That makes life easy, I will get on and order a nut and bolt to through drill.
Bit of a daft question really but I've recently acquired a Colchester Bantam MK1 which is now waiting for me to have a bit of a re-arrange in the garage so I can move it into position. As my garage floor is has more undulations than the surface of the moon, and with me being 6'2", I plan on...
There are quite a few places that offer bike building courses. Some have a reputation for getting you to build a bike but without really teaching you the skills to build another one after, where as a few are better at actually teaching the skills needed. I think one of the best regarded was the...
I will do a build thread on it, might not be the fastest project in the world as I seem to be really busy at the moment, but do hope to make a start on it soon.
Not strictly today but over the weekend I made a kitchen knife. There are a few things I would do differently if I make another, but it is properly sharp and cuts nicely.
Kram, without wanting to seem like a killjoy you are an unqualified and inexperienced climber carrying out work in the dark, and I'm guessing without any one to perform aerial rescue, probably no public liability insurance, and have already cut through your rope once before. You are asking...
I got fed up of emptying half the tools out my tool chest to take when I go racing or to trackdays, so I just got this.
That just leaves the screwdrivers, pliers, side snips, wire strippers, saw, files, drill, tap and dies etc to take from the main chest
Another option if you decide to buy a set rather than make them yourself is to contact Martin Johnson, he's really well known in the TZ world for tuning and making pipes. I'm running a set of his pipes on my TZR race bike.
I'm not sure exactly why but ferrous metal when in contact with wood causes it to rot, particularly if it gets damp. This is why high quality wooden boats use bronze for all the metalwork that contacts the timber.
There isn't much you can do to stop the end of the slats touching the frames, but...
You can use oven cleaner to remove the aluminium transfer off the cylinder wall. Once the transfer has been cleaned off a quick 'hone' with some 400grit wet and dry, and the original cylinder will be to be re-used.
I used to fix saws professionally and have never had an OE cylinder that has had...
I know I asking a lot, but I would sacrifice some travel for a better surface finish. Making triple clamps would be rare, only have 1 bike I want to do it for at the moment so could farm that job out if needed, to get better results on everything else. Ideally I would like to get a surface...
Your build looks interesting, have you got any more information on it, or are you doing a build log anywhere? I would be interested to know how it cuts when you have got that far.
The price looks good on the arc mill, though the surface finish on the aluminium parts in their test videos did...
I had looked at those, but was put off a bit by the use of belts for the drive instead of ballscrews. Though to be fair it didn't seem to struggle with his test cuts, presuming the poor finish really was just down to not tramming the spindle.
Ideally if I can get something ready to go that...
Thanks for the offer of putting me in contact with the importer of Syil, unfortunately the £25,000 for the X5 is way over what I can afford, as is the £15,000 for a Tormach unfortunately. For that level of investment I would need to be up to speed on cnc machining and running a business to try...
Wow thanks for such a detailed answer. I had been concerned that the ones aimed at makers may not be that rigid, but I guess they are basically a router in a nice enclosure.
I will have a read through of mycncuk.com and do some more research, I've not found anything off the shelf that quite...
Thanks for your reply, I will take a look at the Taig offerings, they made some nice bits for Binky.
Size wise 300mm x150mm for the X and Y would be a nice size. For the Z most things I would be looking to make would be from 10-15mm thick stock, though if I could fit 40-50mm then it would be...
I was wondering what peoples thoughts are on the best option for a desktop CNC for cutting aluminium parts? I have been looking around at the possible options and it seems to come down to a CNC router, a converted manual mill like the sieg X2, or one of the new enclosed options aimed at makers...
That's the beauty of this design, it's impossible for the spring to fly off. I copied the design used by Maxton and Ohlins, just mines not as nicely made. The final part I need to make is a clevis that will sit captive on the jack and allow the shock to be bolted to it.
