Thanks all. I'm sure you appreciate that being all new to me it's a sharp learning curve and I read as much as I can but listen to you guys. Stupidly I didn't ask for a tech sheet and there's nothing on the tin. The name of the manufacturer from what I remember was something like Ocalo or...
Two questions please, I read that some advocate adding a little hardener to the base coat (the same as in the clear coat) which helps both scratch resistance and clear coat adhesion. So is it necessary or advised - to remind you I`m a newbie but with all the safety gear. PLUS how long can I...
After all that due to learning the susceptibility of acrylic being damaged by petrol ( the cars a `48 MGTC with upright rear mounted tank) I`ve decided to go base coat and then clear coats. Not that that is going to avoid the run problems. During the epoxy primer application I`ve found it...
Thanks to you both. Just nervous I suppose. Perhaps practice on the wifes' car. Incidently retired now but whilst building enjoyed plastering to a reasonable standard. Gave me tennis elbow in both arms though.
More questions. If I use a 2K acrylic coloured top coat on my 2K epoxy as a newbie on a car with lots of curves and very few "flat" surfaces I`m concerned about get the inevitable runs. So advice please. Do I firstly go for a number of dry coats to give me depth/high gloss? Plus secondly if I do...
Local paint factors have recommended the use of EHS TURBO Plus by Nexa Autocolor as my finish coat on my car. Can anyone on here make any comments to help me consider using it please.
OK so first mistake was buying one of those cheap Chinese sand blasters on EBay- when will I learn that you get what you pay for. Anyway I`m trying to understand whats going wrong. Its not emmiting any sand. Instead of all the air coming out of the gun nozzle it`s also blowing out the pick up...
Stripped every panel on my 1948 MGTC using electrolysis. Water, caustic soda, battery charger ( Youtube how)and went away and got on with other things. 24 hours later paint and rust just flaked off. Had obviously to move panels as container with the liquid in not big enough for whole of wings...
I'm thinking a light coat of epoxy over the flatted filler will allow a delay before base coat. Obviously this light coat will need abraiding before the base
Thanks again. Have just spoken to Express paints about it basically to confirm I need to use a air fed mask. As I will only have to "flat " outside of panels and the 29107 appears to be a good filler anyway think I'll just use that and once ready for base coat do a final block and spray. How...
Thanks for that Al. Has the Lechler got a particular "code " and am I to assume it will go over my Kapci acrylic filler OK? Not frightened of "elbow grease " goes with the territory and If as suggested will sand with the thinned coats I can base coat over at a later date.
Thank you for the response. The car in question is a classic post war MG which is totally dismantled and being sprayed in a relatively small inflatable booth so not the most ideal situation with limited infrared heating (6kw via 6 bars). Whilst retired there are needless to say other "pressures"...
