Cracking day today!! I got all the grass cut this morning before it got to hot. The post man delivered all my parts I have been waiting on. Hoses, link arm balls, and lever knobs. Father liked my idea of the main red hammer lever for safety.
Balls all welded in,
hoses fitted. I am still...
Bit of an update on these link arms while I'm waiting on a couple hoses. The new ball are a tad bigger so I have had to enlarge the hole a tad. Simple job with the old boring head I picked up a while back. Just waiting on the other set of new balls before I weld them all in.
Nah!! Arther if a ropes good enough for Brice its good enough for me. The 16mm I used has a breaking strain of over 5000kg. I was initially going to use wire rope, but in the end I used nylon rope as I am using ally pulleys and I thought wire rope might dig into the ally.
Bleedin typical, I was in one of the sheds this morning getting the mower sorted, flat tyre, and father hollers over “check the back of that shed there maybe a couple rams” I could not believe it.
I could have saved a few quid had I asked if there were any about . No matter I stripped...
Radiator expansion tank, It wouldn't have got that hot to be pressurized or boiling, when I took for a test drive did less than half a mile and he said that's fine and came home. it was father that twigged how cold the oil was. It was quite intimidating really, and im no pushover lol had I been...
Father being old school wanted to open the bonnet when they first arrived, no no they said they just wanted to look around the car, fair enough I took one of them for a test drive, no probs when we got back I opened to bonnet then got asked to start the car again, this is when it happens whilst...
Weve never come across it down here, and being slow country folk, but I have spent the last 5 minuets reading through stories online. I thought father was pulling my leg. Good old dad Im gonna buy him a good drink :)
Just thought I would mention this and to be aware of scammers.
A few moment ago tonight I sold my merc and 3 guys turned up from Essex I got distracted and one of them did the old squirt of oil in the water tank, to get the price down. There word were “there's oil in the water the head gaskets...
cat 1 one end cat 2 the other end of the arms. Don't know if that's standard on all the D's but after reading on the DB forum they don't give a definite one way or anther.
Good point fathers not decided yet, I saved it from the scrap yard totally restored it . There,s another posting i could do on that.. Augers are good if you like ramming the soil back in , father said hes getting to old for that.
Deffo off the top of my head the total cost of this build is mainly the hoses and a couple second hand rams no more than £250 tops, admittedly the girder and other bits was around the yard, fathers chomping at me to get it finished lol
Its always surprises me when you do one thing you have to upgrade another thing. The lift arm ball are well sloppy on Fathers DB. They look like they've had some bodge repair over the years. Now its time to do it right.
My thinking as its carrying quite a bit of weight with the knocker they...
