urgh, it's an industry I sometimes come across and it's a total pain. I have PAT testing quals but never used it. It was part of my electrical training in college years ago.
Often get them cold calling the office and almost threatening us that if we don't get stuff tested we are in big...
Terrible idea. I have HGV licence and i've done a bit of driving but mainly as an interest rather than a career. One of the things that would stop me doing it full time is that the hours are already too much. If pay and conditions were improved it would draw in more people including some of...
On the GDPR thing, its not quite correct. It doesn't matter if its a business or not. A home user of CCTV is subject to both GDPR and data protection act if the cameras view anything outside the boundary of your property, so that's pretty much every CCTV system in the country.

Stayed in Aberystwyth a couple of times when I went to do trail riding with these....

Brilliant day both times. He tailors it to your abilities and you get to ride some amazing stuff.

Hi,
I'm due to build some gates soon and starting to do the design and prep for it.
My initial thoughts were to use a rectangular box (50x30mm) for the frame and then clad it in a composite cladding board.
Does anyone have any recommendations for the cladding? There's a vast amount of...
Sony are a good brand, i've purchased well over 100 in the last couple of years (I install audio visual systems) Since moving their operating system to Android it's got better still.
Their 2020 models are particularly good as they are one of the few manufacturers that have increased specs of...
Hi All,
Any tips on electrically gluing alu filler rod together?
I want to make a structure from my 2.4mm filler rod. I've had one brief go which didn't go well. I basically coiled one rod around another to try and give it a bit more mass for welding. I found that a quick flash did nothing...
Not really made as such although I did drill and bolt it and paint the under side.
I bought a chop saw the other week and there was a bundle deal to get the mitre saw stand for £25, what a bargain as thing is rock solid! That gave me an idea...
Wondered if I could buy more quick release...
Electric motors with object sensing use encoders on the motors so the controller know exactly what the position the gate is in and then current sensing to detect obstacles. The last ones i installed, when they come across an object they stop, back off a bit, then go forward again at half speed...
Absolutely, It wasn't a dig at the gate at all. I just know from experience what they can do when they go wrong. All the more important if you have any children or pets there as they can do silly unpredictable things, like putting fingers in hinge gaps, or running across the threshold to try...
Absolutely lovely gate build there, really nice engineering and it works beautifully.
Only just spotted this thread so haven't followed the build, Just wondering if you have any safety devices on it?
I've been involved with building and maintaining gates in the past and the safety regulations...
Assuming you have proved that its the dualtec that's activating, a couple of things to do.....
Check the microwave range as it will see straight through objects and walls etc, you need to tune it just down to the room it's in. Most dualtecs allow you to either have one LED that represents the...
If there's enough spare solar to heat water well and there's a combi, you could consider a thermal store cylinder. Basically, it's a big cylinder but the water inside is static and usually treated with inhibitor. You can feed the combi boiler through it with a heating coil, like a conventional...
For water heating, if you can do a bit of plumbing, look into a solar thermal system. Using evacuated tubes. Designed right it will give you the bulk of your hot water through summer and it will provide pre-heating in winter that just needs topping up by a conventional source.
I used to fit...
Little work project over the last couple of weeks.
Made a alu frame for an 85" screen to mount within the space of an old fireplace without piercing it in anyway. It's also motorised so they can vary the height of the screen by up to 700mm.
All made with 3" 3mm box.
The motor is more noisy...
