This is interesting.
A different angle - we’ve all seen these horseshoe pumpkin ornaments about for Halloween, what sort of Christmas ornaments can be made by the wannabe welder?
Morning all.
I’m filling in for someone in a welding department at a college and we don’t have any PowerPoint presentations on the basics of welding - please can I ask if anyone has any they would be willing to share?
thank you in advance.
a stainless steel rotary wire brush used in a drill can be very useful on this kind of work
Please can I ask you to elaborate on this? Do you mean to prep the edges?
Edit; I read your second post. Got it.
Thank you so very much. This is very helpful indeed - the help this forum has given me over the years has been invaluable.
That particular set up was done by someone who came for a weld test so is not the norm but I appreciate the advice nonetheless. Thank you again!!

Here you go, this should show the photos of the problem and the way we currently polish out the burn mark....but it's incredibly slow going.
Just to revisit this again - no we don't but I should explain better and I'll try to post a photo or two later to help.
Essentially, there are stainless steel sheets that are folded on all four sides and the folds are spot welded together and the resulting two sides of the sheet that are flush...
Hello all.
I twice had very bad UV burns whilst MIG welding a few years ago due to a crap helmet not covering the neck area sufficiently. Eventually, after my (then) employer seen my red and peeling skin, they ordered 'add ons' of a piece of leather that was stuck to the underside of the helmet...
Sorry, I mean there is some plastic wrapping on some stainless steel sheets and using copper to cut the sheet is perfect because it’s sharp enough to cut the plastic but not hard enough to mark the steel. I just need more!
I’m after some copper pipe to use to act as a knife to cut plastic wrapping off sheets of steel.
Also, is the pipe with a squeezed end the best way to do this?
