All finished.... Thank F!
I think I could of made a better job if I done it all inside, I had to polish out a few fly's and insect legs. On the whole not too shabby.
it will look a lot better when all the trim is back on. There is a trim on the bottom of the quarter glass that lines up with the top of the door frame. I will do some more pictures in a couple of days when the bumper, glass, lights etc are back together.
I cut a rear panel out from a ford Capri and the foam they injected into it acted like a sponge, plus ford used to seam seal before applying primer! No wonder the old fords used to rot!
They would have to sand back quite a away, filler about inch thick in places !
This photo doesn't do justice as the filler around the top of the arch is cracked and the front face has about 1" filler! It was a bit of a botch!
I probably would of, but the panel had been repaired previously and there was a ton of filler and stretched metal underneath it! I think my repair was long winded but was right under the conditions
If it had been the other side I think I would of passed the job on. The petrol would have to have been purged and tank removed to get at filler cap etc.
It took me a day too remove the new panel from the salvage section. I was impressed with the quality of the steel, but not how many cutting and grinding disks I went through! It was like working on a mini Volvo!
Here are today's pics.
I forgot to take pictures of my welding.. .doh!
I butt welded the rear and fillet welded everywhere there used to be a spot weld.
Final trial of the bumper... Just to make sure.
Got to wait a few days for the paint to arrive.
£600 full quarter. They are spot welded at the factory. I just drilled out the welds and fillet welded them back in and butt welded the panel sections after I pop riveted the panel in place. I didn't want anything moving.
She backed up into a post!! She just had the black box put in and they had only just taken the photos of the car prior to the prang! She rather sort out the dent rather than them put the insurance up.
