The Elto has had a new cable fitted, My FIL was an electrician. The Clarkes needs a bit of cleaning up, the wire feed is a bit dirty with a bit of rust probably strip off the case and have a look inside. brush out .

As an old "newbie" myself. Make sure you have removed BOTH sides of the lens protective plastic.
I only removed one side and it was a long time before I found the othere sides plastic.
It made a world of difference.

I don't know anything about rods apart from what I have read that a 6013 should be suitable for a start.
The rods mentioned are a "frequently bought together item".
I will be grateful for any advice.

I've had another go this morning with 5mm holes punched in 1.2 steel.
I turnd the wire speed down to 5 and started at the centre but held the position for a second or so longer then worked my way out.

I set my power to the third highest and wire speed at 7. Firstly I did a few small circular passes on a single thickness sheet and I had good penetration , a nice bulge both sides. I tried again with 6 mm holes and although I didn't get the same amount of penetration it looked al lot better.
