Yes I had one of those, bought from Maplin while I was still at school to build my D&T project.
Even after lots of adjusting and fettling I couldn't get rid of the sideways slop, lost count of how many 0.8mm drill bits it snapped. Once the project was finished I binned it.
I have the Clarke badged version, I rescued it because work were getting rid of it.
It's not bad for a beginner machine if you're space limited like me. Not sure I'd pay £500 for one though.
One annoyance is that the collet system is specific to this machine, if you wanted to use a more...
OK thanks. Do they mention the EJ204 engine at all? The ones I found have the EJ202 which is the earlier SOHC one.
I created a shared area on my Dropbox account if they're too big the forum servers - you should be able to access it with this link.
Yes I found a section of the Subaru website where you could download all that info. I think a three-day subscription was about £30, going up to £450 or so for a year. I nearly signed up, but then found they didn't list my model as it was a US only site.
Do you know any other sources that don't...
Yes that's the one I downloaded, being a Czech site I was expecting it to be for the EU models but the ones it covers are all US spec with the 2.5 SOHC engine. Mine is a 2.0 DOHC.
This one is aimed more at the DIY mechanics amongst us rather than the pros with access to Autodata and the like.
Anyone know a good source for these? Either PDF or printed. Car is a 2006 Legacy, Haynes never did one for this model and the quality of their offerings has gone down the tubes in...
Not worth the paper they're printed on IME. I don't know anyone that's successfully claimed on one.
The dealer who sold me my XJ600 was refreshingly honest. "If the piston rings wear out, that's not covered. If they snap, that is. But you won't find out which without paying for a full strip...
I found out the hard way what happens if you leave it out.
Some years ago in a previous job, I needed some slots cut in an aluminium box and convinced the workshop manager to let me use the mill - I'd used one in metalwork classes 15 years earlier, so how hard could it be?
I had the box in the...
I had a couple of mid 90s diesel cars that took the rev counter feed off the alternator. But they were calibrated for it, alt spins 3 - 4x faster than the crank and has lots of poles, so the frequency will be a lot higher than what you'd get off the points on a petrol engine.
If you're set on...
Zebra strip. The rubber loses its springiness with age, the only proper cure is a new strip.
Lots of them on AliExpress for a few quid, if you can't find one the exact size, wider ones can be cut down with a scalpel.
I have a Kity 613 wood bandsaw, I just bought a 14 TPI blade from Tuff Saws for cutting aluminium. It's at the top end of the recommended speed but it works OK if you don't push too hard.
If you don't have a Megger, another quick test is to pull the connections off the heating element and see if the RCD still trips.
That's how I did a mate's washing machine before we spent any time or money on it, once the old element was out it was obviously shot, casing was all split.
Had an episode like that myself recently.
Mate's lad's Pug 106, radiator dumped all the coolant on the road in traffic and the overheat light came on.
I said I'd help fix it, first step before spending any money was a compression test in case it had blown the head gasket. But getting the...
Some sort of solvent - WD40, brake cleaner, paraffin or similar - followed by be a blast of compressed air would be my thought. Rinse and repeat (literally) until it comes out clean.
Cadmium is one of the banned substances under the RoHS regs, when they came into force most consumer stuff that used NiCd went over to NiMH (which is more or less a direct replacement) or lithium (which isn't).
If the batteries were a custom design for Citroën there probably won't be a NiMH...
I'm still using the old Zanussi we got when we moved in together, must be 30 years old.
New motor bearings about 10 years ago, cost a tenner.
New heating element when a panel pin somehow got lodged in the old one and burnt it out. (No I've no idea how that happened either). Free from a mate...
