Thanks, that could be the issue. I do seem to be going through them at an alarming rate.....
Its not a welding table, just something made up from 50mm tube and 4mm top, i was thinking of welding another 4mm on top to make it thicker.
I'll have a look for the 36 grit flexible disc, not seen those.
So, i've just done two 6 month courses at night school, Mig & Tig.
Got myself a Tig / Mig welder, gas and was given a small welding table which was covered in rust, just painted the bottom up.
I've angle ground the top but its not coming up shiny, theres a black coloring to the metal which...
I have the option of a Clarke 205te to replace my 135te, which runs fine from a domestic plug socket.
The 205te says it’s 30a / 230v and should be hard wired. Will I not get away with plugging that in and running well below max current 185a, or will it trip even at lower amps.
I don’t want to...
After some opinions please:
I have the option of getting a 4-5 year old lightly used Lincoln V160TP with no warranty. For about £200 more I could get a good chinese machine with a 2/3 or 5 year warranty.
I know Lincoln are a good brand and made for industrial use, however I have read that the...
St Helens College do one too, similar price £300.
I started last week. There will be a waiting list, the courses start January and September.
I did the Mig course, then enrolled on the Tig.
Ok, so I've taken the plunge bought a Clarke 135TE secondhand.
It's obvious to my newbie eye that it needs a new shroud / tips and wire, as the wire in it is starting to rust.
So I'm looking for wire, shrouds and tips, I noticed there are 0.8mm long and short tips. Do I order long or short...
Well first to come back was Wilson Welding Academy, £595 + Vat. Far too much for me.
St Helens College phoned, around £300 start in September. They have just started the current course 4 weeks ago. Just what I was looking for, so I’ll get myself a welder and practice between now and then...
Thanks for the above, I was a little worried about the safety aspect of it all and I suppose that was why in the main, I wanted instruction. Any skill takes time to learn and if I can’t kill the welder then I suppose there’s no harm in getting stuck in.
Learning on your own welding kit I would...
That’s great have phoned them, they are calling me back Monday. I get the impression that they do courses for companies but I hope they do a basic one as well.
That’s helpful thanks, most of the local colleges are more interested in certification than those who just want to learn new skills. Probably because there’s more money in it for them I guess.
So you think with a little perseverance and some kit, you can teach yourself by trial and error ?
Can anyone suggest a basic course / introduction to Mig welding course in the Macclesfield or South Manchester areas ?
I don't need any formal qualifications, just time and advice to a complete beginner. I've been wanting to learn for sometime now and having made a dubious van purchase that...
