I found that overlapping spots certainly worked well on some 1mm sheet I was making Skydrol drip trays with. Being a beginner, I personally found it easier with the 0.8 mm wire, 3 stitch bursts and a damp cloth to take some of the heat out to stop it warping (which the first attempt did). A...
Honestly mate, have a look in Ireland. You'd be surprised at how many old Opels are still on the roads over there. Newtonards seems to be a hot spot for anything Vauxhall or Opel.
You've got a point there mate. If 20 years ago I'd had the foresight to do that with some of the motors I had and either scrapped or gave away for buttons, I'd be worth a fortune in classic cars today. I definitely fancy trying something a little more desirable that a mk3. Maybe a manta or chevette.
Yeah, I know it was, and I appreciate it. It's nice to know I'm getting some of this right as I'm only picking things up from Google, books or youtube. And of course the advice and pointers from you guys on this forum. That and some experimentation. Currently on furlough and if the weather...
I'll take that as a compliment. I understand exactly what you're saying. This is my first attempt at car bodywork so I'm learning and practicing on a car I got for free. This particular motor is way beyond economical repair but its a sentimental car for a few of my oldest friends. A bit of an...
While the old bus was outside as I'd got roped in to building a Hay steamer for my daughters equestrian pal I thought since I had the extra space I'd tackle a wee job that's annoyed me for a while. I'd managed to source a NSR chassis leg from another car in Spain. So the guy removed it and...
So, it's been ages but nothing much has changed with the workshop. Still waiting for the rough cast to get done but crap weather causing the roughcast guy a back log then COVID19 throwing a massive spanner in the works has really screwed things up. So, decided to shove the old bus back inside...
Well, it's been a while since I did any work on the old bus. It was supposed to be back in one piece and in the paint shop by now but the storms last year had other ideas and destroyed my garage. So, not being one to give up easily (and also being skint) I decided to take on another unusual DIY...
When the cable snapped were you accelerating?
I've seen it before when giving it some revs, then going to change gear and the cable snaps. It's essentially like dumping the clutch. It wouldn't be the first time I've seen that happen and damage a drive shaft or a CV joint. Cheaper and easier to...
I've decided to cheat a bit to help things along. It'll get the old bus on the road sooner but may well end up being a second project.......
Lots of good parts on it. 57k on the clock from new and a fortunes worth of new parts.
Yeah, I found the same thing with my electric linisher. It goes through belts like they're going out of fashion then randomly shreds them and spits them out. The Roloc pad holder is definitely the way to go but you'll need to modify it. The pad holder is 6mm diameter but the collet on the...
I found the company who supplies them. They're called AIM tool. They're currently out of stock but here's a link to the company's website.

Lol......aye, it worked out not bad. I found a fantastic piece of kit for tidying up the welds though. We use what we call a "Dotco" at work. Sort of a 90° die grinder with interchangeable heads. Very handy tool but you need a massive compressor to run it. I'd been looking for an electric...
