I still get job alerts from a number of sites, happy where i am now but I use the info to encourage some of the apprentices I train.. You know what young un's are like.. "ali TIG is hard I can't do it" or we don't even have a stick welder at work!! why do i need to learn this" then they see the...
This all started because you stated that if the OP is weaving then his settings are all wrong and not enough heat" rightly or wrongly I pointed out this this is not strictly true because weaving techniques are a valid and important technique in welding. regardless of whether you like to weave or...
Richard, maybe there is some cross wires here, maybe my fault. Of course when carrying out spray transfer of course you would not have any weave. Dip transfer is a completely different beast and I would argue more common in general that spray transfer. My post was in reference to your statement...
I'm sorry Richard but I have to strongly disagree, weaving is an important part of welding, it ensures you have good fusion to both halves of the parent metal, it helps you regulate your speed more important it allows you to concentrate the heat where it is needed. For example if you are welding...
Synergic welders.... personally I hate them, question.. can to fine tune the settings? The problem I have found with Synergic welders is you have a microchip deciding all the amp and wire feed settings.. but it my experience and humble opinion, they rarely get it right.. too many variables that...
I've ordered some gold tops to try out.. my only concern with now using thoriated on AC and DC is the potential health risk.. I know the radioactive properties are said to be very low risk, but as a trainer I prep all the machines before each session including grinding the tips, I have to show...
Hi all,
Thought I would share this as it goes a little against the norm but the results were stunning.
In a post a while back I mentioned that we had 2 Kemppi MLS 2300 AC/DC tig units and I was not happy with them as they are too complex to teach newbies on.. Anyway I sold both Kempii's and...
That there is simple contamination in my humble opinion. once the tungsten tig gets contaminated you will get results like this until you remove the contamination.. grinding a fresh point is not enough as the contamination is often further back. you need to snap off the effected part of the...
I was gonna say the fequency of 33 was way to low but you beat me to it, would suggest maybe a little lower for the thickness of the material say 105-110

As the apprentices I teach fabrication & welding to break up for Christmas this week, I thought we would have a change from the normal curriculum.
The group I have on a Wednesday are all new having only started their apprenticeships a couple of months ago.. I got them to make stainless steel...
You can weld nuts on regardless of material, your issue is how big are the nuts?, because you need some penetration for it to be a good fix and if the nuts are small and you burn through to the thread then they are ruined.. m12 nuts would weld with 2.5 6013 rods without issue probably get away...
Re foot pedal, not needed for steel or stainless really.. especially as you need to concentrate on what first your torch hand is doing, then what both hands are doing as you start to introduce filler wire, adding a foot pedal is just making life much harder for yourself as you now also have to...
This might help but if you're more advanced than this please don't be offended.
When I train someone completely new to TIG I give them some scrap steel (cold rolled or bright call it as you wish, or some cheap hot rolled that has be cleaned up) then I get them to just get used to the gun and...
Hi, There are similarities between gas and tig, some argue more than others.. Me personally I think TIG is just to different for you past experience to help you much.. That said once you get the hang of TIG you will love it.. seriously you will..
You could either enrol in a beginners TIG...
Glad I haven't offended..
Ad an instructor the problem is worse because trying to teach people about frequency and A.C. balance etc is a brain burner for anyone new to welding.. at least a set which is easy to adjust and play with helps the learner to understand as they see the results..
+1 for Chucke2009, his accent is legend lol.. but he does do great videos easy to follow.. I often get my students to check him out as extra help.. (don't tell them but I have been known to to try some of his techniques)
