a leather apron helps, good goggles (not safety specs) and a pair of ear defenders and you are good to go. Don't wear baggy cloths and forget the hoodies with the string around the neck!!
1mm cutting discs are cheap enough. let the disc do the work and don't twist in the cut. Don't buy loads...
