Thanks Frank, interesting idea. And yes, in my mind it’s a rebuild (rather than restoration) given that I’m starting the body from scratch.
I’m already a member of the Sankey trailer forum, Wildefalcon, thanks. Ignoring the specific project, just for a second though, what would be the...
The project that is driving me to learn MIG welding is to restore (rebuild actually) the body of a 3/4 tonne military Land Rover trailer.
The construction appears to be a frame made of angle ‘iron’ with flat panneling. The project trailer is so rotted out that details such as how the corner...
Good morning!
One of they key future projects that is driving me to learn to weld is the likely restoration/repair of an ex-military trailer for a Land Rover. The bodies of these trailers are sheet steel and they tend to corrode and rot through where the sides meet the floor if they are allowed...
I’ve now got my welding-equipment basics but need to find a local supplier of stock for future projects and practice. I’m sure I found a list of recommended local suppliers somewhere on here a week or so ago, but can’t find it now I really need it!
Did I imagine it or was it an external...
Thanks all.
I received mine a few days ago and it is supplied with a UK plug. I’ll probably make up a heavy duty extension cord just to be on the safe side.
Thanks.
I’m prepared to give gasless a go. I’m also prepared to abandon it for gas if it looks fruitless!
It’s a trailer rather than the Landy itself (which has a nice galv chassis and shouldn’t need welding for many, many years to come) so ‘nice’ (cosmetically so?) welds are not critical.
Hello!
I’m looking for my first welder and am edging towards the ubiquitous 151EN - partly based on repeated recommendations (or at least non-negative mentions) on this site.
For what it’s worth, I’m planning to restore an old military Land Rover trailer that will need sheet panel sections...
