Hi all,
I'd like to have a go at making a lamp with a heavy gearbox cog as a base and a motorbike chain as the neck of the lamp which will be welded to the cog. I'd rather just mig it but I could use stick if someone pointed me in the right direction with regards to which rods to use. I do have...
Hi Shedendman, I put a few figures in the back of my car and one got scraped against the door plastic and chipped off the paint which surprised me as it shouldn't have come off as the paint was on for weeks before I put it in the car.
I'll check out your recommendations, cheers guys. :)
Hi all and thanks for any advice in advance.
I've made some metal figures in the past and to make them stand out I've applied spray acrylic from my local autoshop and clear lacquered them in an attempt to toughen up the painted areas. The thing is though they chipped far too easily and I'm at a...

Are you using .6 wire?
And here's me thinking your...

Excellent work mrfennerg.
Hi all, thanks for the replies and it looks like I'll try the brazing method as well as preheating to see if the mig takes better. I do have some dissimilar stick rods which I recently bought so I'll give it a go at some time but it's been years since I've used a stick set up so that should be...
Hi all, I've had problems with welding different hardness materials and would like a bit advice.
I made a robot sculpture and the arm joints were ball bearings with rebar arms, needless to say they snapped away from the ball bearings when put under force, the rebar arms and welds were still...
Hi all,
I forgot that I left some rusty tools in a citric acid solution for over a month and they've become a solid whitish mass. Some of the springs I put in had zinc on them as I wanted it shifted for safe welding so I'm aware some of the crystallised gunk could have something to do with this...
