Hey guys,
I am painting the original Land Rover Defender steel rims (attached)- I would be using the vehicle for overlanding so between mud and sand.
I'd love to hear your thoughts on whether UPOL Gravitex stonechip paint would be suitable for this use rather than a normal base coat/hardener...
heya,
very informative thread!
I got a few more questions.
I am about to paint the chassis and underseal of my defender with Raptor (a 2 polyurethane bedliner) - tds attached. The chassis does not have any superficial rust visible.
So I was thinking of (in this order):
1- Prime the...
Hello All,
Next month I will be stripping down my 6x4 1995 land rover defender and repaint it the bodywork outside, the underseal and the interior of the bodywork in UPOL Raptor. Since I am using the car in the ‘bush’ here in Ghana and I will be overlanding in the near future, this bedliner...
Hi All,
As you might have read in another thread I am preparing my 6x6 Land Rover Defender for an overland trip across Africa. I am in Ghana at the moment.
The chassis is in great conditions - I want to paint it as i will be staying on the coast for long.
I have found the Jotun products here...
Great thanks!
I finally found out that Jotun is available in Ghana! They have many types of epoxy paint - which one would you guys recommend for the chassis ?
Thanks a lot!
Great feedback thanks - for Zinga they say sand-blasting is best because it creates the right surface for the Zinga to attach to the steel - would flap disk provide a similar texture in your opinion?
Heya,
Here in Ghana I am having a hard time to find epoxy paint whereas Zinga is readily available - so plan is now to:
1) sand-blast
2) apply zinga
3) apply gravitex - would I need to apply a water-based primer before applying it?)
Thoughts?
Cheers,
Simone
Hey Guys,
I am going to apply Zinga on my Land Rover Defender new steel diesel tank.
To prep the surface it says to do sand-blasting or use other mechanical surface preparation methods such as rotating bushes, bristle blasters, grinders etc.
I am in Ghana (West Africa) and I found one company...
Thanks so much guys for your feedback! No one commented on the Zinga - is that such an unconventional product? According to their website it has most of the benefits of HDG (without the ability to galv the cavities though) but it doens't have the risk of wrapping.
I was thinking of getting to...
Hi guys,
I am stripping down my Defender to prep it for my Africa Overland.
I am down to 3 options:
-Hot-Dip Galvanising
-Zinga (Cold Galvanising method): Zinga is an active zinc performance coating which works in conjunction with the metal beneath whereas paints are only passive barriers...
Thanks 8ob for your reply! The chassis is so far in good conditions - I will soon paint/was/underseal it :)
I can't find the suggested paint in Ghana - hence why I would go for either UPOL products - An alternative would be the zinch-rich paint (Zinga - http://zingaghana.com/products.html)...
Hey,
I have a new diesel tank (mild steel) for my LR Defender.
Want to make it durable to rust from mud, salt (I live by the sea), etc.. so stone-chip paint would do well
Do you think it's best to cover it in Gravitex (1k) or in Raptor (2k) ?
Thanks a lot,
Simone
Heya,
I found that in Ghana there is a distributor for ZINGA: one-component anti-corrosion zinc coating system - http://www.zinga-uk.com/product-range/zinga - would this be a good coating for the tank rather than the paints mentioned earlier?
anyone experience using that?
ok, after having done some research I think I'll settle on the Waxoyl as a good compromise cost-quality.
3 questions:
1) If I buy this 5L can which is the refill...
Thanks @steveo3002 - so you would reccomend going for the Berger ZINCANODE ?
So if I was to choose between this one and the Epoxy 121 which is a two pack modified epoxy high build coating - which one would you recommend me to go for?
cheers!
Thanks for your replies - Ye Epoxy 121 seems very good - if I could use something found locally though it would prevent me the challenges in moving around paint - of course unless locally there is nothing good :)
Today I did some further research in town and found the 2 following paints:
BASF...
Hello, I bought a brand new tank for my Defender as the old one was leaking.
Since I am in Africa and will be soon doing an overland I want to ensure this one will last for a while as finding spare parts is not that easy.
The plan is:
1) Sand-paper the tank to skim the original paint and...
