Just wondering if anyone has used Mipa Vichrom? I want to achieve a polished aluminium look and from what I can find it seems using over a white base will achieve this? Thanks
Haha, it's an old thing, it's one of my dad's. The tank is bare aluminium, I told him to leave it as it really didn't look bad, it just added character.
He wants me to try to fill the dents and then paint it, painted before but never had to fill dents.
Thanks for all the replies and suggestions.
I have filled alot of the worse dents (it has loads!) when sanding the filler down I am struggling to keep the curved shape and the fillered areas end up too flat rather than curved like the tank. Any suggestions on how to avoid this? I see...
I have an aluminium motorbike fuel tank that has alot of dents, I understand that when dents are created, they can also make high spots.
How do you go about finding the high spots around the dents? As I don't want to fill a dent and then find their is a high spot that needs knocking down.
Just...
Thanks for replies, sorry I didn't mention the colour, wanting to just go for a clear finish, just to seal the metal so it stays clean.
Can anyone point me in the direction of the thread that was about Cerakote/aluminium finishes and showed a picture of a carburettor(?) half Cerakote, as I can...
Just wondering if anyone knows if Cerakote is suitable to use on old cast (?) BSA engine case, covers etc.
It is a 60s (?) BSA c15 the engine is currently bare aluminium. If it was blasted, then bead blasted/aqua blasted before Cerakoting would it work ok on this type of metal?
Thanks
Thanks for all the replies, still just as confused as I was to begin with .
Ajelectronics, it is Lechler 29107.
Think next step will be take the wings off again and have a good look to check it is new rust, rather than old rust, as MG David says, it really isn't easy trying to see...
Thanks. ( Sorry not sure how to do the multiquote replies)
Dave h 2 - I don't think it's rust from the pits, although not certain as it isnt easy to see, my plan will be to take them off and check it properly when it's warmer and repainting is easier.
Bluemotion - some people with the same...
I have Dynax UC and the wax she help protect it, my worry is it will tend to get grit embedded in it, so not sure if it will make it better or worse?
Guess I could try it over next month or so and see how it works.
I have a 2005 e46 M3, a few years ago I removed the front wings and cleaned out any corrosion, then painted in epoxy and clearcoat.
Some rust is back, the arch liners is a V shape at the edge that fits into the V shape of the wings arch lips, it seems that the plastic combined with water, grit...
Here is a thread with a bit of info and photo of what I was trying to describe.

I cut the handle off mine and welded some legs to it, haven't had any problems, also gave it a coat of paint and it is...
Sorry if its already been mentioned. Not sure if you still intend to use gas bottles, but if you are and don't want to weld fittings it is possible to set them up with a small tube to the bottom of the tank and have it come out through the centre of your fitting on the top to drain them.
Sorry...
