Personally I'd probably inclined to listen to medical practitioners on this one. I'd just find another hobby if I thought welding would be risking my heart.
I'm not sure anyone is going to be comfortable suggesting that you'll be okay going for it under the circumstances. It's really only you...
I was going for 2.0 because that's what is advised on the TDS provided by UPOL for the primer I was looking at.
I have looked at a couple of mini guns as I thought it would be easier to work with and hopefully lose less to overspray, but I couldn't see one that came with the 2.0 nozzle that I...
I think it will be borderline, the mask I think said 5cfm and the gun should work between 7-12cfm, so it would have to be on the lower side but for the price of the gun I'm willing to give it a punt. I have seen LVLP guns that quote 6-9cfm but wanted the 2.0mm nozzle as that's what is suggested...
Not that basic haha. The wheels are being media blasted and will require proper high build filler so they can be flattened back. I will be looking at doing other things as time goes on, from small parts to car panels. Full shells eventually but will build up kit as I go along. I'll likely be...
Hi all,
I am trying to work out the basics I will need to spray prime some wheels in the very near future. The compressor should be able to cope with what I'm looking at. Just!

This is where I am at so far, feel...
When I'm welding on thin stuff I do it in short sections because I also have a tendency to blow through (also learning). Even a couple seconds break gives it a chance to cool a little. I do this when I'm plugging holes as well so I don't end up chasing them and making them bigger. I'm not sure...
I'm going jump in here because I have a mask question and this thread already answered half of it..
I see above that filters rated P3 are okay for grinding (I hope I've read that correctly) which I was gearing up to ask on here about anyway. Will the same filters be okay for welding?
This link might help explain the difference between DA and RO, some handy drawings https://itsbetterwaxed.com/blogs/detailing-tips/50694340-what-s-the-difference-with-dual-action-random-orbit-and-rotary-buffers
From my limited understanding DA use more air than RO.
I have used bulky style air...
Hellllooo and happy new year folks.
I'm almost ready to start welding, picking up gas at the weekend and then I'll hopefully have something interesting to contribute to the forum..!
In the meantime I was wondering if anyone has any experience using Draper air tools and if they can attest to...
Pulling up this old thread.. I'm going to start frequenting the Sunday market up my way and wondered if there are particular brands of tools I should look out for when browsing?
I don't think I'll need that course (I'm level 2 C&G and did 1.5 years of my apprenticeship before I had to quit) but I was looking at the welding evening class that starts in January, if I can afford it. :)
Thanks all. Like I say I've got grinder and other tools/consumables to support the welding work, it is really the welder itself that is stumping me as I've very little experience around them. I will look at other wires, and will go for 0.8mm as suggested. I didn't consider it rusting so it may...
God this is making my brain hurt a little.
Right. I've chosen the welder. (151en)
I'll get this regulator / hose set, mentioned above: http://www.weldequip.com/argonmix-conversion-kit.htm
A 5kg spool of 0.6mm mild steel wire: https://www.machinemart.co.uk/p/0-6mm-welding-wire-5kg/
I've emailed...
The specs for the 151en say it converts to gas welding with optional accessories, but I can't actually find where it tells me what exactly those optional accessories are. Does anyone know what parts I need (aside from gas :D)
We had an older style one in a blue-ish purple colour. There is one om autotrader at the moment for £995. I'll be honest I don't know the ins and outs of the car, so would definitely so a bit of homework on them if you do consider one. Just based on my experience it was an unbreakable car. I...
A daihatsu terios. Little beast of a car. We used one on the yard (horses). Yard owner had an x5 and in winter he wouldn't bother driving it because it was hopeless. The terios is a little soldier though and never failed us. It took some thrashing as well as heavy loading (feed and carrots!)...
I think I might go with the 151en. It looks like it will be perfect for learning to weld and working on cars. I have a ford puma to restore for practice! And I'm already lining up little bits and pieces I can make for at home and in the garage. I notice from the details I will need some further...
Wowee, thank you for all the input so quickly! I've had a look at the second hand ones, I'm just worried that because I don't know anything about welders at all I wouldn't know a good/bad one if I went to see it. Unfortunately I don't know anyone who could come with me. I was looking at new...
