I think we can rule out 'some other problem' now that it feeds properly with the feed assembly changed. I did try a new feed roller and a new pinch roller bearing but that didn't fix it, in fact nothing did until I changed the feed assembly. Now that it works properly I can adjust the tension...
Hi, the problem is not bird-nesting, it is slippage, sorry if I wasn't clear on that .... it did actually block a couple of times but that was down to wire speed to slow (welded the wire to the tip/shroud).
I think slippage is fairly inherent in this welder for the reasons I have given above.
I'm mostly welding car panel work which is typically 1mm (or thinner), I tried welding with 8mm and couldn't get the power low enough to stop it blowing holes in the repair/car panels, even 6mm on the wrong settings is quite capable of destroying the job (in my hands at least). I appear to have...
I may look at a different torch later on, I'm looking for a quick fix on the original set-up ideally. I don't have any curtain wire here but from I don't remember it being as thick a gauge wire as the proper liner, I would have thought it would tend to bind on the wire easier if you bend the...
Yeah I have had it in bits a few times so I know how it goes together etc, just tried it with the liner completely out of the 'cable bundle' with just the valve block and neck on it, seems OK feeding by hand if I'm honest. I then tried it with 0.8mm (0.6mm previously) wire and it feeds better...
Thanks Cobbler, I was getting to this point realistically, I have it in bits just now and there does seem to be a bit of obstruction at the neck end as it noticeably tightens up at that point when I feed it by hand. I'm going to take the liner out and see what the individual parts feel like...
First spotted when I got a small birds nest just before the wire goes into the liner at the machine end. Welder had been going great up to that point, especially as I had recently converted up from the disposable gas bottles to Hobbyweld (transformed my welds I think).
I have had this machine...
Yes that was my thought too, just wasn't sure, hotponyshoes described it perfectly actually ;) it's a standard Parweld, twin-gauge, single stage gas regulator for Argon if that helps.
Anyway cheers guys, it's put my mind at rest.
Only a complete novice would ask this question so it is perfectly suitable for me
I have just purchased a Parweld single stage regulator and a Hobbyweld 9 litre cylinder (15% Co2) and was wondering about the regulator. I understand the standard hose connection but was wondering...
Ah OK thanks, so the brass knob activates the gas valve and the trigger shorts out the metal spring to activate the welder ?
Makes sense now you mention it ...
Thanks for that
Mike
Hi,
I am a complete beginner to welding of any kind and have bought the above machine for essentially 1 job I have on the car (although no doubt it will come in handy for other jobs as they come up).
I have replaced the liner with a wire one, and also the swans neck liner and am looking at...
