I went to visit this place a couple of weekends ago ... old school jeweler (and a bit of an inventor to boot)
https://www.facebook.com/TheWorkshopLewes/
So the suggestion of trying a jeweller is a great idea! He was busy with the open day so will message him and see what he says!
I have spoken to them and the part is obsolete (XA9438201), no alternatives exist, they suggested scouring ebay and the internet.
There is a similar machine on sale on ebagt for £280 but that would be ridiculous!
I was gifted the machine, and I suspect the previous owner was using heavy fabric and flexing the needle on more than one occasion hence all the needle strikes.
I suspect it is all on the one side because the default straight stitch is with the needle positioned to that side of the foot (you can...
Thanks, I've looked at many similar but not quite right needle plates and wondered if I could frankenstein something useable. But the bobbin access is different.
I did wonder if the slotted area could be cut out and replaced with a similar section from another plate, same as fixing a comples car...
No repair has been attempted yet, it's just beaten up a little from where it moves and then the needle hits the plate.
The slots are required for the pressor feet underneath that move the fabric.
Very little room underneath for bracing either.
I'll look into laser welding
The attached images are for the needle plate of a rather expensive sewing machine.
The part itself is no longer available.
The blue circles show where the plate is cracked. It appears to be stainless steel. Is this something that could be silver soldered or brazed.
Is there anyone on th forum...
I have some older style taps in my house and the hot water comes out pretty hot from the combi boiler but it takes a few seconds before the really hot water arrives.
What I have noticed is that as the water gets hotter it heats the tap causing some part of the valve to close up as it expands...
I'm not sure if I have ever seen or posted this site here before. It seems to have gone offline and can only be seen through the wayback machine.
It's a combination of awesome welding and fabrication ... be warned there are pages of it!!
The basic URL pattern is illustrated below ...
Got my package yesterday ... thanks.
In my minds eye I have a picture of Chuck Norris in a shed wrapping bolts :), to say they were well packed is an understatement !
With a bit of luck can he not just pull the slip joint end out and pop it back in again aligned. I guess this depends a little on where the splines are though.
Hi Feathers,
Here's pictures of mine that I did a few years back. Kept the tub on took about a day from start to finish. I cut the loom and pushed it back inside with a wire pull cord (coat hanger) to pull it back later. Soldered wires back together with glue soaked heatshrink.
That's the result of pure abuse. I have a 3 acre garden and am in the process of installing sprinklers. I was tidying up some bad areas prior to roto-tilling with a tractor. I was running at some extreme angles and hadn't checked the oil. Big bang and cam was in 2 pieces, con rod snapped etc...
Well despite the slightly blackened appearance a quick dusting with the grinder and they don't look to bad. Pretty sure I had a neutral flame. but time will tell :)
Now just need a plate and some JB Weld on the crankcase and the jobs a goodun
