Thanks Al.
I'm on board with leaving double pulse for Aluminimum.
I suppose I was just attempting to save a bob or two! I'll be investing in some stainless and ally flat bar to get some more practice/settings sorted.
Cheers Brad.
Noted on the application of double pulse.
From a practice and trouble shooting perspective though, would I be right in saying that the material used shouldn't be the cause of the arc wander though?
I have plenty of scrap steel to practice on, but not so much aluminium and...
Evening.
I spent yesterday finally getting to grips with the pulse and double pulse settings on my tecarc optearc 300.
I think I've got the pulse settings alright on mild steel fillets now, mainly on 6-10mm thick, but stepping down to 3mm I decided to use double pulse to reduce distortion.
The...
I picked up two cubitron flap discs at the village ploughing competition a couple of years back. They did last ages and material removal seemed very consistent. Wish they had some more aggressive ones on the stall though. I tend to go norton so I can buy them all in the same place.
I find the norton quantum and vulcan discs to be pretty good. Their flap discs arent bad and their blaze orange fleecey disc things are about as good as I've found for removing mill scale.
And this will make it feel even better.
Just goes to show even the most safety conscious can slip up occasionally.
And no, I didn't go to A+E with one of those Christmas cracker jokes on!
My 300 amp tecarc did take quite some time to arrive, but admittedly its not really an off-the-shelf job. I knew and had accepted that going into it. Same happened with my simple little oxford several years ago though.
Could be worth looking at their newer design optearc MIGs though, based off...
Just to give a quick update. Norfolk Gas filling seem pretty good based on my first experience of using them.
The prices for refills are all on their website and they can do slightly different mixes when asked.
I dropped off my 20L bottle for a refill of pure argon and asked for a 50L bottle...
Probably a good idea to make sure you get some flashback arrestors, preferably resettable ones. Not cheap, but worth it when you think of the possible consequences.
Have a look at them on weldequip, the brazing/cutting sets are also worth a look as they'll include everything you need and you...
Its come that time again when I need to refill my Argon/CO2 bottle and I'm also going to be getting a pure Argon bottle for the newly acquired TIG.
As other people in Norfolk may also have found, there are a lack of suppliers that do rent free bottles in this area. I've had to use Adams gas in...
I do less of a christmas tree and more of a slight "n" shape. Pass fairly quickly across the middle of the puddle, then pause on each toe before crossing quickly to the other toe and pausing again. While crossing quickly, I don't go from toe to toe so quick I bring the wire out of the puddle...
I had a set of bucklers for a short while which were super comfy, but they leaked so easily where external toe caps joined, same ones as @rory1 .
I'm lucky that I get to go the US with work sometimes and I get ones while there. I've given up buying them in the UK. It grudges me to say it, but...
For work we've just had some 20mm thick plate rolled to 1980mm diameter, not as big as in the video, but it was brilliant to watch.
I remember seeing a video on Korean shipbuilding ages ago where there were guys shaping plate with propane burners and compressed air. They were sat on wheeled...
I think the consensus is that Land Rover bulkheads can be a complete pain. Certainly mine wasn't easy.
Some of my initial thoughts (that others haven't already mentioned) that might seem stupid/obvious:
Is the gap between the bulkhead and outrigger on both sides?
Have you tried to fit the...
