Aquired this yesterday, its only a 52 D wood vice but what I thought was a repaint job seems to be the original colour RED its even red inside the dog slot, I've had a few of these, always blue, just wondered if I was having another senior moment, again
Just had some 5/16" BSCy countersunk screws made for my No. 34/35/36 vices but with 90 degree countersinks rather than the shallow taper, makes it easier to make your own vice jaws
Just aquired a No 84 Steel vice and noticed its got AM cast in the body and the slider. Anybody got any ideas of its meaning? - I'm guessing Air Ministry but don't know
I stand corrected, I knew Fortis started in Birmingham and then moved to Coventry and I presumed (wrongly) they were taken over by Alfred Herbert, the Fortis and Ajax castings are very similar to each other
I made this fork a few years ago to compress the spring to enable the pin to be inserted, it was only a codge job to see if it would work, I thought I'd replace it with a heavy duty model when it broke, it has'nt broken ...yet
