hi,
i am at college studying level 2 welding and fabrication, and have enrolled for level 3 in Sept.
i've just managed to get a place on a basic IT course this month that will allow e to study level 2 CAD in September.
i'm now starting to look for some part time work to work around college but...
yo, i was looking for some opinions on what work i should stay away from while im starting up? im aware i shouldnt touch any kind of high load jobs (trailer hitches/anything structural that destined for use on the queens highways! etc...)
i thought minor car body work/repair jobs should be ok ...
have just bought my self a Cebora panther 180 :) had to fork out a little extra so it was £200 total but i think i've got a lot more machine for my money and it should last me a good few years... now i just have to play the waiting game for the courier :/
yeah definitely, that's why i like my old bikes - less to go wrong :) especially while still perfecting technique etc... frees up more brain capacity that would be spent figuring out all the gizmos haha :)
Mega mig yep sorry i don't know why i put mighty mig, i think its ingrained in my brain from the vast quantity of ebay ads i trawl past with mighty mig in the title haha :)
really ok brilliant, i know its a simple machine but it'd be good to have a manual.
hi, basically i've had a few projects coming my way that i think i'm really gonna struggle with on the SIP, its been great to learn on and i think if i can manage to get some good welds out of a crap machine i will find it much easier when i get my hands on a good piece of kit :) but i think...

had a little while to wait for the bus this morning so had a paroose round the nearest book shop and found a really nice set of 'modern welding practice' , really happy with them, theyve got an unbeleivable amount of info, they should be really useful for college and after having a read i've got...
finally got a chance to have a go with the plasma cutter (pics below) i am very happy with it, took a bit of getting used to but think i'm getting the hang of it :) i think it was travel speed i was going wrong with, cutting too fast would send the dross back up into the cut and basically fuse...
yeah i think the shadows add extra depth to them haha.... this is same journal, slightly different angle
and i'm not trying to fix the oxford i'm just maintaining it, i know there is pretty much nothing to go wrong other than water contamination/running low on oil and the oil levels fine and...
i did manage to get it cutting fairly nicly even with the AC motor, it was my great uncles who had it for years, found it hard to find much about them other than this page....
http://www.lathes.co.uk/zyto/
ye i've done some asking about and i know someone who will do the grinding/machining for about 30 squids, the plain bearings will be £18 posted and to be honest i'd rather wait and spend a weekend getting it all set up and what not, i'm not in desperate need of it at the moment.
and i measured...
ah also....
The Zyto we had lying around in a very sorry state for years and i took it apon my self a few months back to give it a clean up, i had it running on the the motor that came with it (1/3HP AC motor :/) and got it going ok but was never enough power.
also the head stock...
I have taken a peak inside and it didn't look healthy, and i've heard that most problems occur when they've been moved and it all gets stired up, i have done quite a bit of welding with it already and i'm sure it would of been ok but my luck in the past has taught me to always prepare for the...

I got a chance to have a go yesterday and tried holding my arm into my side and also mole grips make great props, which both definitely helped.
part of the problem at the moment is i don't have a bench or table suitable for welding on so i'm having to deal with a make shift table about 2ft high...
