Thanks Riacard, much appreciated. And yes I should use it more to get a better feel but life gets in the way!
Angellonewolf, no not other cracks but scratches on the shiny ally surface. Thanks for pointing out. Worth having another look.
Cheers
Seeking advice please on repairing the cast speedo housing in the pictures.
Pic 1 for overall size/view.
Pic 2 showing the fracture where the clamp style lug has broken off and needs to be welded back together.
There is a steel sleeve hidden well down the machined hole.
now I need some...
Yep, another thumbs up here. Have you got the dimensions of the torch/burner that you'd be willing to share? I want to smelt some copper pipe to make a heat sink and do some rudimentary lost wax or sand casting work
Update, small mark found rubbed out with 2000 wet n dry, thoroughly cleaned and back together. No leak!
Will have to check kit before assembly next time.
Thanks all
Hi,
Having trouble getting the gas line fitting not to leak when connected to the regulator.
The leak seems to come from the back of the nut so i assume the shoulder of the nut is not seating against the back of the nut?
Is there supposed to be a washer of some kind between the male end shoulder...
@Richard. Thanks for your concern, im a biker too and have been since 17yrs old now 54 and still have a shedfull of them. The shock in question is one for my enduro bike which is only used off road. I am a plodder not a racer. If it fails i probably wouldnt notice!
@Shox Dr thanks just what I...
Thanks all, some really usefull stuff here. Esp. @500e i had not considered purging but will do now. Have a vacuum pump for putting oil in shock body under vacuum and can use this for purging the piggyback cylinder before filling. Interestingly as argon is heavier than air i could also manually...
@brightspark, yes probably, but im trying to do this myself with acess to what i have rather than outsourcing.
@123hotchef could you tell me what difference in performance between the gasses there will be when used in the suspension arena please as it may well render this project a non starter!
@123hotchef thanks, it has to house at least 2 litres of fluid plus another litre of airspace to de gas although I could probably get away with less. This is linked to me argon shock fill question!
@armalites brilliant thanks just the ticket.
I have access to argon from my tig welding bottle but no access to nitrogen. Argon is a nobke gas and diatomic so will be very similar to nitrogen in performance.
Bike shops usually use nitrogen as its cheap. The mechanical reason is that being inert it won't expand further when warmed/heated as compressed air will. If the gas expands further it affects the pressure on the oil and thus the suspension rate. I. e. it would expand the working length of the...
I'm trying to make a shock absorber bleeder.
I can get the 240v vacuum pump of the bay of evil but need a vessel to hold the suspension oil whilst under both vacuum and pressure.
Something like this.
Dont need the valves manifold etc as i can make them just want the clear plastic vessel
Any...
I'm in need of some guidance here.
I'm rebuilding a rear shock absorber from my off road motorcycle (PDS monoshock). I'm trying to do it all myself as a learning experience.
The reason for this post is mainly a question about how to charge the piggyback gas reservoir.
The reservoir has a...
Right...results of my labours. My first go at cast ali. Didnt enjoy it much but got it done. @HughF & @richard thanks your settings spot on and after a bit of practice was happy to tackle the cover. Penetration good, in sone places weld showed right through so I was happy.
